You know, that's what I would think too. I certainly wouldn't want a deranged person shooting at anybody. That's why I'm not sure why the writer thought Yit was important enough to specifically mention NRA and GOA members, as if members of those groups are more likely to be deranged and start shooting people.
It seems like an old tactic. Give whoever oposes you undesirable traits and try to imprint that image on those you are trying to win to your side. Suppose I wanted to get alcohol banned because of all the traffic fatalities it causes when people drive drunk, but the Daily KOS and its readers
are for defending people's right to drink.
I start writing about how I don't want my children killed by an alcoholic KOS reader ala the Carrolton bus crash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrollton,_Kentucky_bus_collision I tie the concepts together, protect the children, and anyone who supports the right to drink is an alcoholic or deranged.
Keep repeating the lie long enough and people believe it.

Lisa starts a gun control crusade, which makes Springfield 100% gun free — even the police no longer possess guns. The town is now defenceless, causing the corpses of William "Billy the Kid" Bonney and his cohorts, 'The Hole in the Ground' gang (Frank James, Jesse James, the Sundance Kid — without Butch Cassidy, as they are 'not joined at the hip' — and Kaiser Wilhelm II, who is obviously not a cowboy but claims he is) to rise from the dead. The gang starts wreaking havoc on the town, until Professor Frink invents a time machine, which Homer uses to go back in time to stop the gun ban and destroy the zombies. Homer tells the citizens of Springfield to shoot at the zombies' graves, causing them to rise up and flee. Lisa feels guilty about banning guns, because sometimes they are the answer. Suddenly, a more futuristic Homer comes in to warn them about guns that have destroyed Earth in the future. He is then shot by Moe, who has had enough of all this nonsense and plans to use Frink's time machine to find some "caveman hookers".

I can see there point of why they would want to keep there guns. I mean today, guns float around the states like its candy and fething crasy people are everywhere.

Gallup polling showed, right after Sandy Hook, that 75% of Americans believed in the right to own a semiautomatic handgun. I highly doubt 75% of the country is conservative.
