Well here we are again. Another of my questions. Is black reach worth buying. I currently have a few thousand points of space wolves and a small nid stealer force (due to original space hulk) and I am thinking of having a look at the Orks as I like the background and the comedy potential with them. So is Black Reach worth the money or would I be better starting somewhere else?

I bought it because it was a much better buy than the 4th ed. rulebook. A dread, termie squad, captain, and tac squad would cost much more independently, and I don't know the costs of the orks. Also, I used AoBR to get a 5th ed. rulebook. I'm guessing that the orks are a good deal as well. If you already have the rulebook, then the value might be diminished, but I think that it'd be a great way to start a waaagh. But I do not personally know much about orks, so I'd get some feedback by actual ork players.

GW keeps bumping the price up. Its gone from a great deal, to a good deal, to a deal. It will boil down to whether you think the limited posed models are worth the money saved and whether you're splitting it with someone or building both marines and orks.
There should be no illusions to the fact the models are good but inferior to GW standard minis. So comparing the standard boxes to this price should only be done if overall quality isn't a concern.
From a purely army build to $ effectiveness in quickly fielding an army at the least cost I still think its worthwhile, but given its original price and GW's excessive mark up from $50 to $75 and now $90, more than with their standard sets I'd emphasize finding an online retailer who sells at a discount.

Thanks for the help so far guys I does sound like a good idea so far.
I do have a friend that is getting interested again so I could give them the rulebook from the set.
As for the pricing if it's increased by the same percentage as the box sets then it should be as gooder deal as it started. Or has it increased by a different amount?
I can make the included marines look more SW -like by adding parts from the old SW boxes (my only models from the new sets are some terminators)
As I have said I am interested in the Orks anyway so I will most likely keep them aswell.
I have another question following on too. How many points of Orks is contained in the box?

Ok, that seems like a decent starting force anyway. I know for a fact that I'm going to need a better case to fit all these thing is but that's for a new topic. Just two more questions.
What are the different Ork units included
and
How many variations are their for each, at a guess.

So, you get, 1 Warboss with a power klaw and a shoota,
20 boyz, 2 boyz have big shoota's,
5 Nobz,
3 deffkoptas.
I wouldn't know what variations are there for each unit.

As said ealier its a good way to get into the game. I bought 1 boxset to start. I then bought at least 3 sets of the orks only (from the boxset) off other people to bulk up my boyz and nobz. If you find that you dont want the SM's you can always sell them on and buy more orks or vice versa?

Yes! Just 6 models included in it would cost more to buy seperately than as in the starter set. With the price increases, you're 'saving' even more, especially if you buy from MWG or Wayland games.

Cool I think I may get this especially considering the raised cost raising savings ,still a shame I didn't buy earlier but still. @Tyranid Horde: Thank you for answering my questions about this @brainscan: I collect space wolves and have quite a substantial force. I would calculate the points for except that it is getting late ant it'd take quite a while. But I do know it's quite a way over 2000 so I will probably keep atleast some of the marines seeing as that still isn't enough for me which is also coincidentally the reason for my sig

lets see.
Warboss is $20
Boys are $24
Nobs are $24
Defcoptas are $33 each(WTF GW?)
Space marine captain is $20
Space marine tactical squad is $37
Dreadnought is $44(only kit to come with the stock MM)
5 Terminators is $50
so it is $252 worth of Models for $90.
this doesn't include the value of a $50 rules book, $9 templates and $12 Dice.
so it is DEFINITLY worth it.

It's easily worth the money for the set. You would come out ahead even if you only want one of the armies and don't sell/trade the other half.

Agreed that it's well worth the money, although I don't know what all it's going for now. Last fall I bought a copy on E-bay for...$60 shipped maybe? About that anyway.
You really get a decent starting force for both Orks and Marines. If you buy more piece-meal stuff off of E-bay you can fill out your Ork squads for $30-$40 bucks. After that buy your Lootas and whatnot to taste.
$90 would be harder to swallow. You MIGHT get better deals buying piece-meal from the kit instead of buying the whole kit and kaboodle.

The set is cool for the pocket rule book, templates, and some of the figures. The deffkoptas are cool; being twin-linked they sorta negate the orky crap BS and are decent tank poppers, and you can easily modify them to be twin-linked big shootas (btw that blister kopta is a metal, hence the cost). The only thing I don't really like about the Nobz is that none of them have PKs or Big Choppas, which they easily could have upgraded them to to fill in the points gap (I hacked the PK off my 'boss from my 2nd set and greenstuffed it to one of my nobz to compensate). The AoBR set was made to suck new players into playing SM, as is apparent with the nerfage on the ork side and the fact the the starter book goes so far as to actually tell the SM player to go first; no rollsies. Good start, but be prepared to break into the bitz box or surf ebay to make up for its weaknesses.

i think the Nobs are armed with Big choppas. they are certaintly big enough to pass as such.
i do think they should make 1 of the Nobs be a PK nob.

I think it's still a pretty great deal, although when I got it it was $60, heh.
I'm sure you'll have no problem finding people willing to trade you ork boyz for your AOBR terminators.
