Im dreadful at watering paints down they always come out to watery and look horrible so i try to water them down but it doesnt always work.... I should be adding pictures of the baal and astorath finished today as im recovering from a sprained foot so I get lots of painting time

When watering down paints, you want the consistency of milk, but also know that you'll need to do more than one coat if you're painting red over a black undercoat. In fact you might need to do three or four. Takes time, but you don't lose any detail.

You've got a good size army going here. Well done.

I agree with the others, thinning the paint will help. However, I think if that doesn't work for you, you could stop it from being too big a problem by using washes. Because while I see highlights on most of the models, there is very little shading, if there is any at all.

There is a wash but it doesnt really show i may put a line of badab black in them again to make it stand out some more...

I have a couple of suggestions for the wings. I understand you may not wish to re-do them, but just for you to consider...

- strip them of existing paint
- prime white
- use Valejo's "pale wash" to give them depth, prop the wings upside-down to dry so the wash gathers in the right places along the feathers' edges. Make sure you are very thorough in your washing so there are no missed spots, they'll stick out like a sore thumb later.
- allow to dry thoroughly
- give a very gentle drybrush (very dry) of skull white over the edges of the feathers. The pale was is quite pale (gray), so you won't need to glob on the white, you're just trying to bring out the bright edges of the feathers with it. Even for drybrushing, I'd dilute the white a bit first, then give the brush a quick pass or two on a paper towel to take off most of the excess liquid.
- finish by painting the top part of the wings gold like the rest of the model, that will make the white feathers really stand out... so the wings will look like the wings on the top of your banner pole.

Just some ideas... keep up the good work.

I dont have the Valejo set so maybe gryphone sepia...? Thanks for the suggestion anyway

Sepia would give them a brownish tint, rather than the pale gray of the Vallejo. I don't have the Vallejo set either, was able to pick up the single bottle at my FLGS, realize that might not be an option for you. There's always the internet though. You could also make your own very light, very dilute gray wash if you'd like. Alternately if you were going to use the sepia you need to thin it out quite a bit. You don't want to stain the feather's brown really, just add a bit of color to the recesses. I'd thin it by half 1:1 (wash:water) to start with. If it's too light you can always add more.

Looking like a decent sized BA army you've got there! But I agree whole heartedly with the others, thinning down your paints would be a really, really good idea.

Also, one thing I noticed was, you might want to make your highlights a little more gradual. For instance, on the assault marines, you have just a line of codex grey, try blending in a mid tone to make it gradual rather than just a line. ^^
