well, bear in mind that this is simply my opinion: I don't really like Denzel Washington. I do like Gary Oldman & I love Tom Waits... That being said, this film, for me, was watch-able, but not great. More like a rental from Redbox than a purchase to be sure. Now, I will give credit to the Hughes Brothers [whom I also like], as it is pretty stylistic and whatnot, and it's a nice visual treat. There's a couple scenes which I think played out really well & the action was alright... The twist ending, for me, became somewhat far-fetched in retrospect based upon certain things that transpire, but with a healthy dose of suspended disbelief YMMV. I also had a hard time believing that the Book was so coveted post-apocalypse that Gary Oldman was spending so many resources trying to find one - now I understand it was probably his proverbial ''white whale'' or whatever, and at one point it actually seems inferred that Nevertheless, many of the same cliche problems that plague any post-apocalpytic plotline are evident here & for me tended to cause parts to drag or just appear silly. (possibly spoiler): It looks pretty cool, there are some nice scenes, and there's some performances by minor characters that are pretty enjoyable. Like I said, for me this one's a rental, though for around the cost of a dollar is worth the price of admission. The only other thing I would mention, just as an interesting side-note, is that Malcolm McDowell has a speaking part in the show, yet is uncredited at the end. I just thought that was interesting...

It plays out like a cross between Max Max and a spaghetti western.
It's shot in a sort of bright sepia-toned effect which is interesting.
There's a bunch of good performances and some excellent action scenes.
It's not an Oscar contender but it's not a waste of time either. As I've seen it I wouldn't buy the disc but if you get the disc cheap it won't be throwing money away. It's the kind of film I would watch again if it came on TV late on a Saturday night.

I liked it pretty well. Giving away the secrets is going to take a lot of the punch out of it, tho.

I thought it sucked, personally. Bad pacing, no character development, extreme Christian background, and a twist you see coming a mile away.
My two cents.

It was interesting. While reasonably predictable if you know the spoilers listed above, it is still pretty entertaining.

It is a pretty good movie. Did not regret watching it in theaters. It is fairly religious, but it is just a story, so who cares?

So far, i've been able to sit through half of the movie. Not because of the movie itself, the wife and kids seem to think me watching a movie is absurd.
I don't really get the feel of a religous flick, yes the main char has faith, and overall the ideal for the value of a bible in a post apocolypitic setting is as accurate as I can only begin to imagine. The power to lead people in any direction. This could be due to my beliefs overall though. Although I read the spoilers I havn't caught anything other than a brief conversation that would hint him being blind, so I can see the big shock when you find that out.
Overall I can say I'm enjoying the action, his movements are crisp and well placed, and the setting is perfect.
Im really looking foward to seeing the other half of the movie.

I love gritty movies, and this movie had a very strong theme/feel to it. Sure, at the end everything not make total sense, but I thought it was well worth seeing. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surpised by it (saw it in the theater).
I'm suprised it took this long to come out on DVD- interesting what determines the time for that. I'd thought it hadn't done all that well and would come out quickly, but I guess not!

I thought it was a fun watch, but the pace of the film kind of irritated me. The end was a let down, but that is just my opinion.

I watched this movie when I was out of town on business at the theatre. I thought it was very good.
I did not see the surprise-ending coming.

I'll watch this again, there aren't many movies in the genre anyway. The characters were pretty cool, and it was all around good acting.
Hopefully I will enjoy it more the second time.

I really didn't enjoy it. I thought it was pretty nonsensical, with a lot of fairly glaring plot holes, and a preachy message, and unbelievable characters. The action was alright, I suppose, and the scenery and sets were pretty impressive. If you don't mind the message and enjoy the genre a lot it's probably worth watching, I'm really picky about films and stuff.
I thought The Road was a much better post apocalyptic film, though it is much more gruesome and depressing.
