I don't know if this will help but i actually got a good rust look to some of my space marines by leaving them in a tin coffee can that wasn't completely dry. I was stripping some of my SM and left them in the can to dry but the lid got put on my accident so it trapped the water and then transferred the rust look to my models. I have since painted over the models and no pictures were taken but it did give the rusty look.
