Despite hearing people say that Stormtroopers are terrible, I've always wanted a squad of em. Not content with Kasrkin, I picked up some of the old ones from about 1999 and painted them up for my IG. I did these guys pretty much in one marathon session that took me all day, but I think it's been worth it! Tell me what you think!













Given the sheer amount of pouches on these models, I've taken to calling them "Sergeant Liefeld's Pouch Brigade". There's also a terrifying number of reused bits from Space Marine and Catachan kits in there, namely all the pouches, canteens, and grenades. My favorites are the plasma guns, which actually have Space Marine hands that are noticeably smaller than their other hands. Lazy sculpting, but still great models!

Overall a nice solid paint job. Nice touch with the blue auspex screens, everybody seems to go for green ones for some reason.
Half a point of though for not drilling the sgt's bolter barrel

I would have drilled the bolter, plasma pistol, and plasma guns, but I really didn't feel like dealing with drilling metal - I can't say I enjoy it! Thanks for the compliment

I love Kaskrin, but I can see the appeal to these guys.

If you want to use them, but are weary of the suckitude of them in-game, an alternative would be to use them as Inquisitional stormtroopers. Count as troops, you can take squads of 5, and load them up with special weapons. Think super specialized vets on crack.

I actually used them last game, and they killed a Carnifex in one round of shooting! They really don't seem THAT bad, just a bit overcosted. Given the right orders, Guard can do anything!

Very nice! The only thing I could think of adding to them would be to dirty them up a bit, if only just around the boots, but that's just me. Remarkably well done either way.

While we're on the subject, I like the Kasrkin models a lot, they're just stupidly more expensive.. and I think it's also to do with the way GW has painted their display Kasrkin's on their website. Ah well, the helmets are fun too! But only 5 different poses and some of them just pointing their guns at the ground is loltastic. I mean, it's like they're shooting at an enemy they've just knocked to the ground. Hmm. Guard. Yeah, right.

If you look around on eBay, these guys actually seem to go for more than Kasrkin, strangely enough. The limited poses does kind of bite, but I changed the grass patches on similarly posed models so they wouldn't be too similar.

I have always preferred these guys to the Kasrkins. I have a enough for a full squad with choice of weapons (meaning I got 2 boxes of special weapons), but I have not painted any of them yet. Mostly because I can't decide if they are going to be painted to match my IG, or Inquisition for my Witchhunters.

Yours look great! Making me lean towards painted mine to match my IG.

These guys actually don't directly match any of my IG! My Cadians have the traditional Cadian scheme, and my Catachans have a brighter scheme. These guys fit somewhere in the middle, with their Russian-style uniform colors.
