Ok here is my dilemma I have a 1750 IG army, I am maxed out on HQ, Troop, and Heavy support already and have 2 fast attack options. The army is being bumped up to 2000pts which leaves 1 fast attack space and 3 Elite spaces. I was thinking about throwing in a handful of ogryns but am not sure if ogryns are the best way to go. Therefore I pose a question, with 250 pts to spend what would you guys recommend? Any advice will be appreciated.

I have done a couple of things for my Elite slots and both are usually mounted into a chimera.
For H2H I have used Commissar Yarrick and 5 Ogryns. Using the chimera to get them wherever and then dropping them off for assault goodness (something that IG really lacks)
or
I have also mounted a squad of Psykers in a chimera to be used as "mobile glass cannons". Sure the random AP is weak, but if your packing a full squad of these guys the Strength gets up there for a massive whooping.

I second Marbo, he is cheap and can be a pain in the but for the enemy when his demo charge hits. Plus anything he does after that is bonus points. A squad of ratlings are good. I love the buggers. They can hurt any infantry or MC and rending makes them very dangerous.
I have not used stormtroopers or orgyns yet, so I can not speak on their behalf.

I like Ogryn. Backed by a Lord Commissar they are terminator killers.
I just picked up a full squad of militia to use as Psykers and a squad of 5 ratlings. I havent used either but look forward to it.

I agree that ratlings fill the void for dealing with high toughness creatures at a cheap offering and get killing things pretty much on turn one.
The walkers (light version) with auto cannons and missiles added (group of 3). Troop or vehicle, they will hurt it and they can be up close and personal fast (descent support in melee as well).
Marbo is also a great way to get a demo charge into those least suspected areas (though the Valkyrie can get in there pretty deep in the first turn).
Can always use a Valkyrie of some type with a squad in it for vehicle or large troop hunting (think veteran squad with multiple flamers or demolitions group with meltas). Or convert the thing for all those cheap lascannons (see my photo gallery, I had modded one up).
I REALLY want to like the Ogryns but for the cost you get, they are NOT terminators and I cannot help feeling ripped off using them, never had them pay for themselves and found better uses for the points. Stormtroopers suffer from their guns not having enough reach and lacking too little punch in melee so they really do not want to be that close, really have trouble getting them to pay for themselves.
Hope this gives some help.

Marbo is amazing.
Psykers are great against everyone except Eldar.
Even Storm Troopers aren't that horrible. Yes, they are a point or two too expensive per model, but my squad of 8 with two plasmaguns consistently wipes out or cripples smaller squads of Crisis Suits or Space Marines (particularly those damnable longfangs!), as well as Eldar Aspects, Sisters, and other T3 armored models.
They are particularly effective with Al'Raheem, who can provide a lot of bodies to help screen the ST, as well as a great order (Like the Wind) for double tapping targets while staying out of rapid fire range yourself.

Yeah mate, I've got a similiar size IG army and I've just learned the goodness of a hellhound or two for disrupting charges and the like. Either that, or get one with your fast attack and Marbo. Even if he doesnt arrive until later in the game the psychological effect of knowing he will show up somewhere with his demo charge is worth it. I've put my little Marbo model on top of my TV and everytime my ork playing flatemate starts going on about Waaagh, I just point to the model and whisper...Marbo. He hates him ever since Marbo blew up his Battlewagon! Marbo's psychological effect is enough to justify his points, certainly.
Psyker battle squads would be the only other thing I'd waste the points on.
If GW made storm troopers scoring and gave them Valks as dedicated transports, they'd be worth taking. But, of course, they didn't.
Ratlings, IMHO, are only good against hordes. They can harass, but I generally find that I can task some random unit to kill them in a spare moment.

Ratlings or psykers, on my end. Ratlings really only if you have a lord commissar to keep them in check though. I know someone who has destroyed the nightbringer with ratlings.

Stormtroopers are really cool, but other things can be better for the points. Against MEQs they can do some good work though. Ogryn could pretty much only be useful if Straken was around to make them better in close combat, and a Lord Commissar could keep their bad leadership at bay. Also, a unit of 3 armored Sentinels with plasma cannons comes in close to the 250 point mark.

Really, the only army Stormtroopers are any good against are Sisters.
Sisters can wipe out entire squads of stormtroopers in a single turn quite easily.

I imagine he runs vet squads. I'm close to maxing out with my 1850 force. Automatically Appended Next Post: My elites are Marbo and Psykers, for the reasons mentioned above.
Psykers can really turn a game by making seers Ld2 or making a squad that took 25% loses auto run.

OK, 600 pts of Vets for Troops, but no way to max the 2 Fast & 3 Heavies. That's 6 Hellhounds & 9 Russes / Bassies right there, for over 1500 pts in tanks alone. Not to mention a half-dozen Chimeras... My Guard army contains 5 Chimeras, 2 Hellhounds, 3 Demolishers, 2 Russes, 2 Basilisks. That's 1700 pts right there!

I have some ratlings and enough of the Kasrkin models to do a Melta squad and a Plasma squad. I haven't gotten a chance to play with either yet, but I am looking forward to it. Granted, they aren't the most effectve units out there, but they seem like a nice change of pace for friendly games.

Ah, but then you'd have to pay the premium for carapace armor, which is rarely worth it, at least in this edition. If vehicle prominence and/or cover availability change, this may change as well.
Am I the only one that wishes Storm Troopers had their Apocalypse data sheet special rule in standard games? That would make them worth Grey Hunter+1 points. And yes, Valkyries as dedicated transports would be awesome, and drive sales if only for people wanting to field more planes (although mine are in the process of being converted to helicopters).

Personally though, I'm giving some thought to using all three of my elite choices as Marbo...my flatmate is still a noob so I reckon I can get away with it...As long as each one has a different name right, then technically you can use them as the represents someone else right...So his brothers, Garbo and Larbo!
Put that in your reserves roll and smoke it!
I think that would get me drummed of out the guard though, even if my flatemate would fall for it at least once!

Since it seems like they're getting rid of the DH allies rule, I think Ogryns with a Lord Commisar is something to reconsider as a counter assault unit for those "Hi I drop 589234739845734 drop pods the first turn" armies since our Inquisitor/Mystic cheese is no more.
Marbo has literally won games for me.
Psykers are good against everyone except Eldar, (as was said,) though from my experiences, anyone who has played your guard more than once makes them a priority to get rid of.
Storm Troopers are mehhhhhhhhh. I don't have any luck with them, (I don't have any luck with a scatter die...wait, why do I play guard again? lol) Vet squads w/melta+demo are just so much better.
I've never tried Ratlings, though I imagine they're good with Harker + Sniper vets, though.

It is? I thought I read somewhere that the new PDF for the Daemonhunters codex wasn't allowing allies anymore.
Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of it when they put out a new Inquisition/ GK/ WH/Whatever the hell it's going to be called codex.
