So
In the space marine codex hellfire rounds have SX and poisioned (2+)
There is no Ranged Poisoned special rule, but there is a close combat one.
This close combat one gives the ability to re-roll wounds if "the strength of the wielder is equal to or greater then the toughness of the victim"'
... What is the Effective Strength of X, and if would this allow re-rolls anyway? cause the rule is in the Close combat, and not the shooting section?

This was changed in the GW Errata. Hellfire Rounds now have a strength of 1.

Sweet
Thanks
"Page 66, 100, 144. The profile of Hellfire Rounds
and Hellfire Shells should be changed by
replacing ‘Strength X’ with ‘Strength 1’."
However... now to play devils advocate
the RAW says the strength of the wielder, not the strength of the weapon...
Automatically Appended Next Post: A Friend of mine pointed out a something awesome..
It specifically says that "the wielder must re-roll failed rolls to wound in close combat"
So, no matter what the strength is, guns can NEVER re-roll failed wounds due to poisoned.

x==0 is always considered not to exist.
It wounds on a 2+ (because it's hellfire.)
HOWEVER:
IN faq, and the re-printed codex, hellfire rounds are considered strength 1.

It doesn't matter what strength the gun for this discussion, nor the strength of the wielder, nor the fact that it would be weird to give a shooting reroll based on the model's base strength. Poisoned re-rolls only happen in close combat. Not because it's in the assault section of the book, but because, as quoted above, the rule about rerolls specifically says they're for close combat.
