I'd be very interested in seeing the Italian press reaction to this, though not from a tabloid. I'm hoping the Guardian will provide some coverage of the fallout, perhaps from an Italian sister publication. It's pretty obvious what the Italian equivalent of the Sun will say.

I must say I'm glad. I don't like the Azzuri. They fething whinge and moan about every decision and dive like stukas! It's the same with the Argentinian and Portuguese teams, which is a shame because they play some good stuff at times.

I managed to catch the last 40 minutes and it was quite a joy to see Italy go down.

My office is next door to our Office Facilities office. They always have a 40 inch TV on for games.

No-one dares screw with Office Facilities because they provide all the televisions for the whole HQ building.

After they knocked Ausralia out with a pathetic dive 2 seconds before the end of injury time in the round of 16 last world cup and the the penalty scored I say sucked in.

Yeah, there's three teams I really don't like, France, Italy and Brazil. Seeing two out of three drop out in the group stage is pretty good going.

Yeah and in the quarter final the Dutch will take care of Brazil for you so no sweat!

OT: No pitties for the Azurri, the team was just not balanced enough with all the oldies!

I caught the final 30 minutes or so of the Italy Slovakia match, it was a joy to watch and I have to give credit to the Italians for not giving up and playing for a result up to the last minute. There were some stonking goals.

It has been refreshing to see some unfamiliar teams make it into the last 16, it will hopefuly liven things up as this world cup hasn't been all that spectacular so far (except for the N Korea and Portugal match)
