I have searched the dakka but haven't found something to answer my question

If I fire an infernus pistol range 6'' at a vehicle I get 2d6 for armor penetration OR do I have to be 3'' away from the vehicle to get my 2d6 armor pen.?It says it is a pistol size meltagun----what do you think?

It's max range is 6" yes?

The Melta rule states that you get 2D6 if you are within 1/2 the max range of the weapon.

(1/2) * 6" = 3" Melta range.

Just like how a Multi-Melta gets extra penetration dice within 12".

It's just like the Inferno Pistol the Seraphim have.

Except it isn't, RaW, Melta, which means it works against the Stormraven!

But to answer usa_supersonic's question, since the Infernus Pistol has a range of 6", you only get the melta effect at half range.

it's written down in the entry I belive, that at 3" you get an extra D6 for pen. Pretty clear (and it's not actually a melta weapon, like Gwar! said )

That's only for the Witch Hunters one. The Blood Angels one is indeed a Melta Pistol with a 6" range.

Unless you're like me and you consider the Errata/FAQs RAW.

But GW themself will tell you that the FAQ's are not rules - Just the errata. So you'd be ignoring GW on that point.

I think that's the stock argument against that line of reasoning.

AP1 & 2d6 armor penetration at half range sounds a lot like melta to me.

If GW wanted people to take that statement seriously, they'd stop calling it a FAQ, which indicates that it is GW's answers to common questions and therefor it is close to both RAW and RAI as you can get.

Personally I don't take everything GW posts seriously. I mean come on, just look at the DH/WH pdfs debacle.

So RAW isn't serious?

No, RAW is serious business. That's why we're talking about it on the internet.

I am glad it does.

You know the WH Infernus piston isn't AP1 right?

If memory serves correctly, the Sisters of Battle Inferno Pistol is also AP2.

Edit: Dang... Didn't read to the end of the thread before posting...

Except getting within 3" of a Stormraven's hull on foot is rather problematic. I really need to build one of those stupid things...
