So, after waiting about a week for the store I go to to get another Cryx battlegroup in, I finally got to buy it and was excited to be able to put it together... until I had to put it together. For me anyway, nothing fit. All of the post sorta things that are supposed to fit into the slots were too big (I guess that can happen when you decide to emboss 2002 on the back side of every one) so I had to use a dremel tool to file them down. While doing this, the legs on the bonejacks snapped at the knees, and I thought metal was supposed to be pretty sturdy. Also, the helljack came with pegs on the feet, but there were no holes on the base so I had to drill holes in the base to try to get it to fit, but I'll need to go out and buy epoxy tomorrow to make sure they actually stay in. So, I guess what this comes down to is, are all the privateer press models such a big pain to assemble?

They require moderate modeling skills.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

You think that gak's bad? I propose we list some GW models that are a serious pain in the ass to build. Let's start with Obliterators. I DARE you to buy one.

Turn the base over. There's a variety of holes at different distances from each other. Pick two at an appropriate distance from each other for your Slayer and cut through at those. The pegs should fit perfectly. Mind you, doesn't GW do this with their larger bases as well?

Anyway, welcome to Cryx, home of a variety of spindly sculpts. The Slayer chassis and bone chickens are actually pretty easy to assemble. I expect to hear you crying tears of blood when you buy Satyxis, spider jacks, and the Stalker. Don't dissapoint!

I would vote a "sneaky gotcha" for the new Leman Russ kits where if you attach the sponsons the helpful little tab the sponson housing goes around sticks out just enough to interfere with the tube the gun is mounted on. You have to shave half the piece off or remove it completely in that corner.

I have tried many kits and the old Land Raider Crusader and those Metal sponsons were worse than any Obliterator or Thunder Cannon combined (I do know I have put these models together as well).

The metal kits can take some work to put together but its worth it in the end I think.... I've been happy with all my Warmachine/Hordes models... they were some of the first I've ever done for models in general.

I agree with ya, but I'm never putting together another DeathJack or Terminus models again in my lifetime.

I found the Titan Gladiatior a pain to build. The one I put together had a 4-5 mm gap at the waste.

Suprisingly the DTM extreme was really easy to put together.

I don't mind tough large models to build, but small tough ones like Mortenebra wish I had thrown it across the room.

I'll see your Titan Gladiator and raise you a full unit of Nyss Hunters. Yeah, there are a few tough kits out there. That's part of the fun.

While I had to pin the Titan in a few spots (lower hands and flag, mostly) and GS a gap or two, I really didn't find him too bad. Now the Cyclops kit, that could use a revision around the arm area...

I was a little surprised at this myself, I'm no expert when it comes to metal compounds but if like me you are more familiar with the GW standard of metal then working with the Warmachine models will take a little getting used to. I recently bought a 'Stalker' and as someone above has already mentioned thats a real killer! But fear not, stick with and you do get used to working with it.

well, after an hour or so of trial and error I finally got the legs to fit back into place correctly. The models themselves were really easy to put together, I just think that since these particular guys have been in production for eight years they'd fit into the bases lol. They look great, but it just seems like such an easy problem for them to avoid.

Actually, older molds tend to produce more errors, thus will be less likely to fit together perfectly.

I've assembled about 6 or so WM models, and they do seem to be a poor starting point for a beginning modeler. If you don't know about pinning, for example, you're going to be in trouble. I imagine that the newer plastic kits greatly mitigate this, though.

And, for what it's worth, the most difficult kit I've ever assembled was the Thunderfire Cannon. I probably spent 2 hourson filing alone, both by hand and with a dremel.

Building the torso then gluing the legs into place, after those have cured combining the two. Very easy way to avoid issues with the provided holes. Unfortunately I have no experience with GW minis, or any other miniatures. Warmachine/Hordes is my first endeavor into miniature gaming and lovin every minute of it.

Patience is your ally here.

Take your time and go slowly.

The skills come in time - and the plastics WM have are no easier to glue together due to the abs plastic they use (it is resistant to plastic cement, needing a stronger solvent to soften it - like a pvc adhesive).

The metals really aren't that hard to put together if you don't try to rush it.

Or you just use the superglue that you're using for the metals. Since all the plastics are "Peg A goes in Slot B" affairs, cyanoacrylate holds them together perfectly.

Aye those things are nasty, although the worst ever for me was the old metal Steamtank. Just couldn't get the damn thing to fit snug not matter how much I filed. I think it was a case of needing a dremel.

the truth is that the metal battlebox sculpts are 8 years old and made before PP had a certain level of sophistication in their models. the models PP put out after escalation are much better than the prime models and the escalation releases themselves are mostly good as well. prime models tend to be the ones with the most technical issues.
you should not expect easy assembly but the pieces will at least fit and the sculpts will be better. mortenebra herself is a huge challenge, but for the right reasons.

Harbinger…… That was my personal pain to assemble. All of those little itty bitty bits that need to be attached just so. 1mm off and the next part cannot fit right. Then the flag is so weasely that it bends if you look at it crooked ::full body shutter::

I think part of the 'I hate metal!!' is because so many of the GW players hare spoiled with the plastics and never had to deal with metal, or the metal plastic hybrids.

Any monkey with ah exacto can convert plastic figs- theres more art involved working with the metal ones.

I have always preferred metal since I hate cheaply built things and models without any weight to them seem cheap to me. Learned to pin every join and then green stuff the gaps if it is bad enough. Only good way I found to move those parts around if I want a different pose are those super thin cutters for the dremel, looks like mini table saw blades. Learned to use a vise to hold parts after cutting the tip of my little finger off like it was not there. Metal is a little more work, gives a good result but may generate a bit of blood, especially working on those chaos models...

I add fender washers in the bases of infantry or model train weights for vehicles to give the models the proper heft and not get moved around by someone walking by.
