[b]LEMAN[b] Russ. Leman. Believe me, citrus fruits don;t grow on Fenris, and if you call me primarch a fruit again, they may very well be fisticuffs. :p

My Favorite Leman Russ tank, which was named after the Primarch, would have to be the Punisher variant. While probably not the best nor most competitive version, these something undeniably appealing about a "Heavy 20" weapon.

That's kind of my biggest problem with the vanilla Russ. Half the time that battlecannon whiffs and accomplishes nothing at all (if I played Spearhead, squadrons of Battle Tanks would probably work for the redundancy of multiple battle cannons). That's why I've mostly moved to using artillery instead. The major exception for me is the Executioner. With up to 5 plasma templates, it never fails to do at least something to the target, and more often than not absolutely devastates it.

The Punisher is neat fluff-wise, but it's pretty awful in the game itself. It's very expensive for what it does, and between BS3 and AP- its damage output is terribly anemic. You basically have to add Pask, heavy bolters and a stubber to get anything out of the tank, which makes it even more outrageously expensive. If I want a Pask-Russ to throw a bunch of dakka downfield, I'll take an Exterminator over a Punisher any day of the week.

Fair enough. I am stupidly, insanely, criminally unfairly lucky when it comes to rolling for scatter (in my last 20 games, I think I have rolled 2 misses-and both managed to hit something), so that may have something to do for it.

I think the coolest one is the punisher but in game terms the best would be the executioner. It deals death like none other, or the Leman Russ plain. That represents what these tanks do! I HEART MY TANKS

Vanilla LRBT all the way. Many a squad has been obliterated by underestimating its power (at least 1 hit every 3 turns!)

Really really really want to try an executioner though. Haven't gotten the chance.

I'd have to go with the executioner. I love the punisher to death, but it can't quite perform as well as the executioner can. The demolisher and LRBT are a tie for 3rd in my book.

Either demolisher or vanilla. Demos are one of the few things in the game that is jenuinely an ace of all trades... Within 24 inches.

Vanillas are like tactical squads to Armoured Companys, tactical squads with battle cannons. Simple, cheap, well rounded, iconic, troops and is basically everything else in the list but with a different gun, or differnt armour.

I like the vanilla russ, and the demolisher, but they're only good. They dont produce screams of rage/despair as you unload 5 plasma cannons on that termie/assault marine squad....

I'm going to go ahead and say the Vanilla Russ, but the executioner is its hotter, higher mainenance sister.

The good old standard LRBT is a great choice though I don't have even one out of the 5 I have in my army. Just doesn't fit my fluff. The Exterminator in the new codex is just a god awful evil monster. A heavy4 twin linked autocannon as it's main weapon, and you can still mount anti-armor weapons on the sponsons and hull. A straight nighmare vs medium-light ground troops and light tanks.

executioner and punisher are winning? I weep.

My favorite russ is the 3x "bolter boat" russ. The battlecannons' primary target is infantry, and so is the heavy bolter. Plus, blast weapons have diminishing return once enemy squads start getting low in numbers from casualties, which is where the heavy bolter comes in to pick up stragglers. The exterminator is the same price and also pairs well with bolters, but the battlecannon is so much better than a single twin-linked autocannon that it's not really worth taking compared to a regular russ.

Everything else is way expensive for what it does, and much of it has very underwhelming firepower, or both. This is especially true of the punisher, whose main cannon is actually terrible, and the super plasma executioner (which, apparently has never been used against an opponent who knows how to space his models over 1.5" apart).

Of course, like Terminus, I don't care for Russes in general, and take artillery instead. Russes only get more durability against a single type of weapon, and to get it they need to cost more to dish out less damage more poorly.
