Bit of a weird question, but I've been wondering, how many dice do you take for a game of 40k.

I feel it's just always good to have extra.

If the polls don't have your answer put it down!

I once charged a unit of terminators with 30 Boyz and a Warboss. They were packed in there so close that I got 96 attacks. It was glorious rolling that many dice at once. However, the boyz only killed one terminator, leaving it to the nob and Warboss to finish the job with their powerklaws, which they fortunately did. Needless to say, I still drag along with me a great big bag of dice.

With the people I play, we generally bring one of the blocks of dice from the GW each, and it is enough. If we need more, then we use the house dice if we play at the store, or if its at home, then a tray of other dice is used. The block has 25 normal dice, plus scatter, plus one I can't fathom the use for. So with two players, thats 50 dice, 4 players, 100, 6, 150, and so on. We very rarely even need to borrow from each other! Barring, of course, the tyranid player...

Worst comes to worst, you can roll the attacks in halfs, quarters, or even one by one! As long as you note it down somewhere.

I usually take my two sets of 36 dice with me with the scatter die.

ChrisWWII wrote:I eventually realized that it was apparently one die I had been rolling that kept turning up 3s. My reaction was to take said die, and hurl it out the window of the 3rd floor of our student union. I then placed a Commissar model next to the rest of my dice pile. They immediately began performing much better.

For me it depends upon which army Im playing with:

Marines and Guard
8 larger dice (red, clear, craps size)
36 standard sized dice (pink)
30 smaller dice (clear pink)
4 scatter dice (white w/blue #s)
For back up I do carry a GW cube with 2 scatter dice and 4 different colors in groups of six.

If Im playing Orks I bring two full cubes of bone white GW (with the artillery die replaced with another regular die). For a total of 52.

Plus the multi colored cube (for special weapons in mass rollings).

Tau I bring 72 dark blue clear, but that is going to change since my new tau army is going to be yellow so I will pick up 72 yellow smalls.

Btw a trick for ya'll who go to conventions and tournaments. If you dont want you dice to disappear pick up Pink dice. I have been going to tourneys and conventions for 24 years and kept getting my dice stolen. Then as a joke a friend got me pink dice and 10 years later I still have those dice.

"Real men use pink dice!"

wow. I take 20 red black blue, (60) 10 green yellow pink (30) and about 30 more miscellaneous, and about 3 scatter dice.

It's never been overkill, and I'm used to firing 2 lascannons and a heavy bolter per turn.

I just take 10 and a scatter. I don't wanna lose them, so 10 is easy to keep track of. When I buy a dice cube I'll use that though. Too lazy right now

With my Marines, I use 12 big blue dice and a scatter die. With my Orks and Guard, I have a set of 50 average sized green dice, and a scatter die. Marines usually roll neatly into 12s (IE - a tac squad rapid fires 14 shots, 10 of the initial 12 hit, so I just reroll those two misses for 14) and you never know how many dice you'll need for Guard. Nothing like getting First Rank Fire on a 20-man blob in rapid fire range.

For my space marines, I bring:

-20 white dice
-6 blue dice
-8 red dice
-4 green dice
-2 black dice
-a few scatter, but only take 1 out of the bag
-1 large clear die to act as the turn tracker

edit: I even consistently roll the same types of rolls with each colour

white is for bolter/heavy bolter/normal marine CC attacks +saves
blue is for assault cannon/lightning claw attacks +saves
red is for flamer/missile launcher/ thunder hammer attacks +saves
green is for all things librarian/melta
black are for wound tracking

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Exactly 85 dice. 2dice cubes of small dice with 36, 1 cube of 12 bigger dice, and a scatter die. I use alot of my dice to mark wrecks, weapon destroyed, shaken, and stunned results. Plus i use them to mark what has fired their weapons + whatever else happens to them like doom or other things that affect my squad.

I've got a dice cube and the AoBR white dice, so 31 normal dice, 2 scatters, and that 2xD6 die that 40k doesn't use.

My friend has his own dice cube (and some other dice), so when he's around (which is every game...) we have around 60 dice.

Dunno how many. At least 70+ in at least 7 or 8 different colors and sizes. I play orks primarily and it saves a lot of time to have different dice for choppas, big choppas, burnas, and power klaws at all once, for example.

About 60 - my first block of dice I bought from the FLGS, the Crown Royal bag of 27 wolfhead dice I ordered from Chessex, and the handful of random d6s that I keep assimilating from the gaming floor. And exactly one scatter die, which does its job proudly of scattering all over the bloody table when I need it.

108 Black and Gold Dice so I can show everyone who's boss.
14 white dice in case my friends need extras.
6 green dice because no one has green dice anymore.
2 scatter dice because one scatter die is never enough.
1 of those weird dice with the funky numbers and the Assplosion marker because it looks cool to roll 12s sometimes.
