Poll
If your country is eliminated, would you still hold interest in the FIFA World Cup?
Yes, I will continue to watch even if my national team is eliminated.
No, I was rooting just for my team.
No, the color of life has been dulled for the time being and I'm too wrapped up in sadness to even vote for this option in the poll.
Maybe, even if my team is eliminated, I will attempt to either catch glimpses of games or follow the scores.
I don't even know what you are talking about/what is soccer?

Now that the English and American soccer teams are defeated and since most Dakka-ites on this website are English or American, does that mean you will continue to watch the games, or does that mean you have become turned off to the sport for the time being?

Personally, I had only mild interest in the American games (keeping me ahead of 98% of the rest of America's interest in the game) and was consistenly keeping track of scores if not watching.

With America eliminated, I am now focused on the obsession of where basketball star LeBron James will be going as a free agent.

I am torn.

On one hand, I like watching games.

On the other hand, I might boycott the remaining games, not because my teams were eliminated, but because of how awful FIFAs officiating has been throughout.

I was gonna try an watch an Australian game but they got smashed by Germany before I even watched a game. Poor Australia shouldn't even bother sending a team. haha.

But if Australia could play soccer I would watch.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

I usually only watch soccer if it is the world cup, so that's every four years. There are some good games, but I don't really care too much now.

I'll still be watching it. The only sport currently being broadcast is baseball, and that's unwatchable.

Yeah, I'll keep following it. It's better than watching Australia keep losing to England in the cricket.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I've got two teams in the office sweepstakes -- Ghana and Brazil -- and my wife is Japanese who are still in it. So, three reasons to watch.

What is this World Cup you speak of?

Here in England we are enjoying a cracking summer, consisting of cold cider, hot sausages on the BBQ and warm weather. This has been topped of by giving the Aussies a thorough trashing in the one day cricket series and (appearantly) a win in the fresh water angling!

I will hear no more of this "World Cup"!

In all seriousness I will probably catch quite a few of the games as there is some fantastic footy being played by quite a few teams, just not England! (one for each goal)

Well, Spain are sort of like my second team since I lived there. It was during the European Championships and England weren't in so I watched the home nation in the bars with my spanish mates. They won, and the atmosphere was amazing. Since then I've followed Spain as well as England. Sort of.

I'd still watch it anyway. I love football.

I'm in 2 : South Korea and Ghana in one..Germany and Argentina in the other...every cloud as they say.

I've watched a good 90% of the games so far and plan on watching all the rest of them still.

Yes.

As it is on in the middle of the night, there aren't millions of Aussies watching it anyway.

What team(s) do you think Australians generally root for in the World Cup, if I may ask?

The back of my mind

Well Hand of God Team is doing pretty well, and I hope they keep doing well cuz Argentinians become pretty sour when they lose a match,it's a pain in the ass putting up with peeps when they get on that mood :s

Still I brace myself since people are extremely scared now that next match is against the mailes fists of Germania...

Heed words of wisdom and be enlightened:

They stay alive because Japanese people love seeing a rainbow's assortment of hair colours, people with animal ears, wings, or tails, clothes that even a blind guy wouldn't wear, and cookie-cutter angsty teenage-hero characters that all have some life-shattering unique, heartfelt sad soppy story.

Likewise, many people in the West are slowed to some degree, and they think that the storylines and characters are actually of a decent quality. Generally, these people are in the 12-16 bracket and/or are the same crowd that think the Twilight movies are the best films ever produced/books ever written.

Even though I am pretty bummed about the USA and English soccer team getting booted out, I'll still watch. It's still an entertaining tourney.

I have to agree about the idiotic officiating. If they don't fix that problem I don't think the world cup will gain any acceptance in America. In fact I don't think I could watch another disgusting display like what I saw in the USA match vs Slovenia and England vs Germany. Terrible.... Terrible.. officiating.

Why is it people only care about poor officiating when the UK is at the end of it?

Italy were robbed of the World Cup in 2002 with blatant match fixing in favour of Korea and Japan, yet no-one cared then!

10 years ago, FIFA's Argument that Goal Line Tech slowed the game down were fine. Now, however, it's complete nonsense. Not to mention the fact it would only be used in cases where there is a chance of an error, not for every single call.

Well I didn't watch that world cup. But I think it's a misnomer to say that "no one cared until it happened to England".

I'll have to read up on the 2002 world cup.

And by the way.. if the cheater Italians got booted becuase someone else cheated, that's kind of poetic justice isn't it?

There's cheating, and then there is Cheating.

It wasn't just to the Italians as well, Korea and Japan had a LOT of bias for them during the Tournament, but Italy fared the worst. You know the Italian Players eventually had to silence the crowd when they scored, just in case it was "offside".

..and yet, despite all of that, if Italy had sunk the easiest chance of the tournament they still would have beaten them.. go figure..

North Koreans are waking up today to the news that theyve just beaten England 4-1 in the World Cup.

My mate asked me if I saw the England goal.

Unfortunately I missed it, I was too busy refereeing the match.
