I have some models I need to repaint some are plastic and some are metal. I know some things will eat the stuff a way to a nasty pile of GoO I want to avoid that so I figure I will ask you all before I try.

I have heard warm water and Lysol will take paint off plastic very well.
As far as metal, I'm not sure if that will work. There is some Orange non toxic stripper that works very well on metal though. I got it at walmart but I forgot the name.

For metal models, I've used Simple Green cleaner with no problems. Strips the primer and paint right off.
I've never tried it with plastic models.
I would recommend that you go to the Painting and Modeling forum and do a search with the taglines "remove paint" or "Strip paint". This question has been asked and answered a million times. (Not trying to be snarky).
Edit: Title of forum.

to strip metal models just use meths or paint stripper , works for me and only takes an hour or so for a single coat to be stripped , it may take some brushing to get off thick paint or paint thas in cracks.

Time for my usual plug. The best universal paint stripper I've found is an automotive degreaser called Purple Power. I believe SuperClean is very similar, but I've never tried it. It's very plastic-safe, and I have yet to find a cleaner that works better or more consistently. It's WAY better than Simple Green, in my experience.
No exaggeration: about 1/3 of the time, the paint will have completely degraded and fallen away in the wash, and all you need to do is give it a quick rinse! (Though a scrub with a toothbrush and some diswashing soap is always advised to remove any cleaner. Be sure to use gloves, too!)

It doesn't strip primer off of plastic models. At least Chaos Black. Cannot remove the stupid primer no matter what I try, it sucks.

Autozone and walmart both carry Superclean(in the auto section of walmart). Its about 8$ per gallon, and lasts forever if it doesnt evaporate( pickup some cheap disposable tupperware thingies).
purplepower is a generic version of Superclean, they seem to be identical from what I can tell.
