From anyone who has built a Vindicator...
How unreasonable would it be to acquire the Vindicator parts sprues and make a conversion kit to adapt a Rhino/Razorback to be a Vindicator? I'm not really looking to spend a million bucks on redundant models right now, wait til I win the lottery, then hello grand army! Til then, I convert and magnetize!
Long story short, is it reasonable?

On the bits websites I have found the Vindicator parts, basically a cannon and a bit of extra armor. Just wondering how much extra is involved in making a Vindicator after building the base Rhino.

What's redundant about A vindicator? Three vindicators is redundancy. One - is a target. It's a model that has had rules since RT. It's a SM vehicle. It will ALWAYS have rules. The vindicator is still just a rhino model with extra bits, so just getting the extra bits to vindicatorise a rhino or razorback seems feasible enough.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Just buy the gun, the front armour and the dozer blade. I'm sure the rest is not-that important.

The Vindicator kit is identical to the Rhino plus one sprue. If you haven't assembled the Rhino then you could track down the Vindicator sprue and you're done. These can be found on e-bay but only infrequently and they don't go that cheap. If you've already assembled the Rhino you won't be able to convert it without tearing it apart or settling for something that looks awkward at best.

have some slap on armor plate and a big tube to slap on the front (like a large size plastic straw painted metal-colored even) and I'm pretty sure everyone will know it's a vindi. I know some people who switch up their rhinos for razors or vindis just by taking off a turret or sticking on a big lumpy barrel. 1 model gets you three vehicles! My Predator used to be able to double as a rhino too because of removable sponsons and turret, and just throw on the top hatch. All the SM vehicles except the land raider are so very interchangable... yesterday its a rhino today its a whirlwind, tomorrow a razor, then a pred, a vindi, etc. It's a good idea to magnetize all the peripheral parts that may or may not have to be sticking out from the basic Rhino hull. Build the basic Rhino, and tack on stuff for the modifications as needed.

awesome link. thanks mal. reminds me of SJG's 'cardboard heros' series.
Actually second ed. boxed set had a cutout card ork dreadnought included in it, and WFB 1st ed. had a carboard giant. I like the idea of scratch built figs very much. We used to have to make Vypers by gluing 2 jetbike seats together and that went on for years. Leman Russ was issued in 1993's 'dark millenium' but there was no model for it except from Armorcast, predecessor to FW, you just had to figure it out by looking at the picture.
I like 3 dimensional figs though, but i would play a game of 40k with triangle tower figs like 'cardboard heros' or TSR's 'Marvel Super Heros' figs style so long as they had a consistent size. damn sure it would save some money if that stuff was cool for tournaments. Then we would have yet another gaming company declaring bankruptcy.

The problem part is the doors and the dozer blade mounting.
If the rhino side doors are attached, you can not fasten the reinforced aside armour coming on the vindi sprue.
To come around this you have to magnetize the rhino doors and vindi side armour.
You also need to magnetize the dozer blade mounting on the front sides and the engine bit on the top.
This adds up to 12 magnets + 2 if you whant to magnetize the ammo lift on the SM variant on the back.

1/2 inch PVC tubing makes a great demolisher cannon, I used it on a WIP Baneblade I may or may not ever finish. (but the demolisher cannon looks GOOD) Plasticard your add on armor if you want and if you need a dozer blade you probably know somebody with an old imperial vehicle sprue (I know it's supposed to be nifty on a Vindicator but I think it looks like crap)
I just got a five foot section of 1/2 inch PVC from a home improvement store for a buck and a half. Got a plastic handicap parking sign that's about 18x24 inches for $4 and that's enough plasticard to build a lot of armor

I agree with this one for the penny pincher. Goto a hobby store, or hardware store, and buy some tubing of all sizes. You can plop down $20 worth of tubes and make a whole boat load of different guns and such. Use your imagination and you can go places. Why did that sound like reading rainbow?

Well your going to ahve to rip off the front plate of your rhino and put the vindicator faceplate on it, the dozer blades glue to the side front quarter pannels, and the top is kinda different yet easily done, all you have to do is glue it on top.

Tazz, I love you buddy....
But its hard to be a bad ass in a self avatar pic when you are holding a paintball marker on your shoulder.
Nice Promask though.
I think that it wouldn't be that hard to do the conversion. Look forward to seeing progress pics.
