Hi my fellow dakka readers!
Just wanted to say this is my first post on dakkadakka!
I just want to ask the community if they wanted to play a small 40k game which would they play combat patrol or kill team as I am an enthusiastic skirmish sized game player.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any replies in advance

I will say though that I've always wished you could get two elite choices into kill teams. DH would be so beerdy.
Inquisitor and Daemon Host lol

Combat Patrol.

Kill-team is not balanced properly. Orks are completely unusuable.

The ork strength is in hidden powerklawz, oh no! kill-team gets rid of that my having every model as an independant character.

Oh well, at least orks still have mob rule! Oh wait, everyone's their own squad, and after half the orks die, the other half has to take a Ld 7 test.

Oh well, I'll just spam kanz! Or at least I would, if kill-team allowed heavy support.

What else can I do? Spam warbuggies? Gretchin (auto-lose when the opponent brings a dread...)

Really, kill-team is not balanced properly. Combat patrol is infinitely superior, way more fun, and offers a far more balanced experience.

I enjoy Kill Team. It can be quite challengin for Tyranid players to find a good balance between synapse and gaunts, or just a few kick-ass Warriors or genestealers.

I enjoy the current version of KTeam. However, you need to work out any artifacts resulting from scaling down 40K to model-level with your opponent. Preferably pre-game. We often play that models in traditional coherency continue to benefit from unit special rules.

Of course orks who are designed to throw hordes at the enemy will have troubles with a scenario about a handful of heros on a special mission. However, you can still pack quite a few orks in a 200 pt KTeam.

I prefer kill team, as I have never really played combat patrol. If I'm thinking of the right game (the one in the 4th Ed. Rule Book?), then I find that it's uninteresting for the other player. Just to confirm, Combat Patrol is the one where one player controls a team, and the other controls sentries. If I'm wrong, could someone show me where to find the rules.

Combat Patrol... it's not as broken as Kill Team imho. While I still love Kill Team, it just takes a heck of a lot of extra rules to make it fun. Also, a lot of Kill Team lists are really boring and kinda OP.

The way we play combat patrols (and this is possibly the rules is both sides get 500pts, with a 0-1 HQ limit and only 1 required troops. And the Front, side, rear of a tank cant add up to or over 34. Thouse ruels were my first torunement, and they are a TON of fun if you bring the right stuff.

Buh? Try lootas and the 13 guys who each fire d3 S7 shots at 48" range. Park in cover, blast away.

If you want to actually play some close to a normal game of 40k combat patrol is your best bet. Since its normal rules other then the change in the FOC.

kill team is a blast but is much more of its own game then it is 40k since when you build an army for kill team you alot of times use things you would never use in a normal game.

Kill team is fun but it's not 40K. Combat patrol is a small game of 40K.

That was called Kill-team. Thats was also in the book but isn't Combat patrol.

@Skarboy:

Nice. Lose half the T4 6+ save lootas, watch another half flee off the board. Also does very little against termies, as the board is 4ft by 4ft. Ld7 FTW!

Believe me, I love Orks, but they are horrible at kill-team. I have tried a whole spread of lists, but they just don't work.
