Hey guys I just got some Cadian shock troopers. I plan to add some bags, pouches and possibly some head conversions, as the normal shock troopers seem boring. However i'm stumped on a colour scheme so any ideas would be a great help . I would like to avoid the generic green that they normally are.

Thanks for the help.

Use two colours that are relatively similar.
For example, cookie-cutter version - Green and Olive.
Other examples are:
Red and orange
Brown and yellow
Black and grey
Blue and turquoise
And so on.

Do you have the codex? There are many good examples in there.
Try checking the Dakka gallery, and the coolminiornot gallery, to see different schemes.
In the end it's up to you what colors you like best. Generally you want the cloth to be some sort of earth/city/terrain color, and the armor to complement that.

If you have access or can google them, check out some of the older editions of the IG codex, they have a lot more painting and color scheme pictures.

Here are some Stormtroopers I painted. Their scheme isn't THAT different from the standard Cadian scheme, but it looks more like a Russian WWII scheme:

I ended up trying two different schemes with my old cadians.
My fist one was black armour with fortress grey fatigues, works well and if you are any good at camoflage you could add some black and white blotches or zig-zags on the modle for urban camoflage.
The second was similar to Brother SRM's scheme, only it realy did look like russians from ww2, not saying that your don't btw. They were a modified camo green (Camo green with black added) for the armour and a slightly modified vermin brown for the rest, exept the boots, allways blakc with the boots. Btw, the modified vermin brown was just vermin brown with black.
I also printed out some tiny comunist stars and stuck one on each shoulder of my finished guardsman...my only one i finished...then painted it red...it looked brilliant.

Hope this has helped...unfortunately i have no pics...i think.

I use Red gore for the Armour and a reddish brown colour (?) they used to produce called terracotta. It ends up having a nice effect in the end

I'm afraid I went the cookie-cutter approach with mine, green with brown fatigues.

The first third edition codex (This One) has a few tutorials for camo schemes, but the second third edition codex (This One) has a full page worth of infantry camo schemes, from woodland to ice world to ash waste.

Ok thanks guys, I'm thinking that I may be doing red however I always liked woodland camoflauge schemes. And Lazzurus did you print the stars on transfer paper or just printer paper cause that sounds pretty cool.

Be like me and go for a Martian camo scheme - just switchout the colors on your favorite woodland scheme.

See, for my guard, I went for a Brown and Tan scheme: The cloth is Scorched Brown highlighted with Graveyard Earth, the large flak armour is Khemri Brown, with the individual panels done in Bleached Bone or Deneb Stone. The bases are a Mars-esque tone achieved with Dark Flesh, then drybrushed with a mix of Dark and Tallarn Flesh. The flocking is GF9 Arid static Grass.
