I have noticed the explanation for certain invulnerable saves seem kind of interesting explained, such as the Swarmlord getting one for being really good at parrying, or Asurmen getting one because he is forced to live in unending war. I was curious if anyone knows any other weird ones.

All Terminators get a 5++ save because there is supposedly a splinter out of the Space Emporer's gold armour in their shoulder pad cross.
SM Captains can get a 4++ save from wearing an "Adamantium cloak". A material so rigid it is normally used for the hulls of heavy vehicles like Land Raiders. (Which don't get an invulnerable save.)
Tyranid Zoanthropes get a 3++ save from thinking about it.

Wrong. The Admantine Mantle grants immunity to Instant Death. The 4++ comes from the Iron Halo, which in itself is a ring shaped piece of gold...

It's a very similar thing.
I like the idea of a gold ring-piece.

I think they wrote somewhere that terminator armor is so massive that almost no weapons can fully bypass the armor, thus you get your 2+ armor save, and your 5+ my armor is INVULNERABLE save. the armor is just too thick.

Iron Halos actually contain a force field.
The halo is just the piece that actually generates it.

Kinda sortof, it would have to be a tiny-ass fragment if they really did incorporate it into the Crux Terminatus.

You got it close - Yarrick's powers come from eldrad's feathers, tzeench's writing, and dan abnett's pubic hairs.
A vast majority of ++ saves come from force field generators (including everything in the imperium that gets a ++ save), or from force-field-esque psychic abilities/equipment.
I'm actually kind of surprised that there are ANY invuls that don't fit into the above.

What about the one where a group of enemies in front of you can some how convince your troops not to shoot at the other group of enemies behind them? In other words the intervening models rule. Where as anyone with half a brain would just shoot through one squad into the other.

that was the idea of this thread, when I normally think of invulnerable saves, it's force fields and magic daemon powers, but some are a bit sillier

Actually only the Crux of captains contains a fragment (well... is "said to contain").
The 5++ either comes from the extra plasteel covering the ceramite or (I believe I have read somewhere...) a force field (albeit a fairly "weak" one) built into the armor.

Thinking about it, the SOB acts of faith are really quite odd... They aren't psychic, and they are spawned from faith... Whats going on there?

Yeah, I miss the Assassin's Dodge Save... Back in 2nd edition, if the Assassin was hit by an area effect weapon, like a Vortex Grenade, you had to roll for scatter, to see if they successfully dodged in the right direction, or into the blast...
Displacer Fields (3+ save, with a D6" scatter in a random direction) were fun for that, too.

Yeah, I mean, imperial guard commanders get a 5++ from the weak-ass force field that they all carry around. I don't see why the 5++ of a space marine would be any different.
