Came up with some house rules for beamy deff guns for lootas.

Seems OK. Gets hot will result in a whole lot of dead lootas but they can kill marines a little better.

Think I should make it AP 2 instead? Compensates for gets hot better.

I'd drop gets hot and make it cost like 35-40 points. But that's just me.

With crappy armour and BS2, 'gets hot' doesn't really work for orks unless you can access FNP.

With the rules above, assuming you roll St6 or more for the shot and the marine is in the open, you've got a 5/18 chance of killing the marine, and a 5/36 chance of killing yourself. So for every two kills you inflict on the marines you'll suffer 1 to your own guys.

If the marine has a 4+ save, which is pretty likely, then the odds of killing a marine are exactly the same as killing yourself.

Very orky, but a bit unbalanced, to my mind.

I'd bump the guns to AP 2 and make it a high-risk, high-reward kind of a deal or give them a special rule that lets you re-roll some "gets hot" rolls, just to give them a fighting chance.

I think if it's AP 2, that gives it even more of a reason to be Gets Hot.

What if they only "got hot" on a roll of 1 to determine the strength?
