A much underappreciated movie, imho. 1984's Buckaroo Banzai. I mean, look at the cast ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086856/): Peter Weller, Clancy Brown, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, and Christopher Lloyd as John Bigboote!
Adventurer/surgeon/rock musician Buckaroo Banzai and his band of men, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, take on evil alien invaders from the 8th dimension.
Yes, it's campy. Yes, it's got horrible 80's fashion. But, man, I loved this film when I was about 13. I'm still sad that they never did a sequel.

I don't know if a sequel could do it justice.

I told my 28 year old step son about it a few years ago and he thinks it's brilliant. His opinion was that it was so crazy it was pure genius

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

hehe.. I just watched this yesterday on G4's 'Movies That Don't Suck'
They had some bit at the end where they said the main character was based on several historic figures and Adam Ant.
As for the sequel.... The end of the movie invites the viewer to watch for the upcoming film "Buckaroo Banzai vs. The World Crime League". This was the real title for a sequel that Sherwood Studios planned to make if this film had been successful. Unfortunately, it was a box-office bomb, and Sherwood Studios went bankrupt. After its release on video and cable, however, BB became a cult favorite, much in the same way as Mad Max (1979) (which crawled from obscurity to spawn two sequels). Legal wrangling due to the bankruptcy prevented any other studios from picking up the sequel rights, and even years later MGM had to fight through a pile of red tape simply to get the OK to release it on DVD.

Anyone read the 2006 graphic novel? Apparently, it's based on a script that they wrote for a TV pilot.
And Amazon shows a paperback novel to come out this year.

I'm of a similar opinion: odd but very funny. There are so many good lines: "No matter where you go, there you are."

They made a trailer for the tv series pilot.
I've seen it and it is cool in a kind of lame-o 80s way (but not as lame as noughties remakes of 80s tv shows. Like Miami Vice, A-team or Knight Rider).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
