I was wondering if there could be room for Dakka members to be given say 3 votes a month to assign to any thread posted that month. At the end of the month, the poster who's thread recived the highest votes, gets something added to his signature or something. This kudos of being voted poster of best thread may help to incentivise people into submitting worthwhile and well throught posts. Similar forum websites (abovetopsecret.com) employ a similar system.

So someone's posted an interesting topic in the Dakka Discussions that you as a Dakka member have enjoyed reading / contributing and the poster has kept the thread topical. You could assign one of your votes towards this thread. The thread with the most votes gives the poster bragging rights in his signature, or something else in the Avatar bit. Like as well as listing number of posts, could also list number of Best Thread Awards.

Don't know the mechanics of how this would work or if it could, its just an idea.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

We've thought about a very similar system and may integrate something like it in the future, but it will not encourage better posts, there will still be at least the same level of crap getting posted. It would make it easier to figure out who the best posters are and see the best posts which would improve the perceived quality of the site though.
