I'm participating in a Painting Resolution/Challenge on another site. The goal is to crank out at least one unit per month under the following schedule:

January - HQ
February - Troop
March - Elite
April - Fast Attack
May - Heavy Support
June - Painter's Choice
July - Troop
August - Elite
September - Fast Attack
October - Heavy Support
November - Painter's Choice
December - Objective Marker

So we're halfway through the year and I've met my goals. Here's what I was able to assemble and paint in the first half of 2010.

Units completed include:

Imperial Guard Baneblade (partially started before 2010)
Imperial Guard Deathstrike
Necron Monolith
Bastion
Tyranid Trygon
Tyranid Biovore Brood (3)
Tyranid Tyrant Guard Brood (3)
Space Marine Land Raider Redeemer
Space Marine Dreadnaught (2)
Space Marine Venerable Dreadnaught
Space Marine Vindicator
Space Marine Baal Predator
Ork Killa Kans (3)
Tau Stealth Suits (9)
Tau Pathfinders (11, partially completed before 2010)
Tau Firewarriors (10)
Tau Drones (14)
Lord Zhufor

On deck for July (Troops) are 95 Necron warriors as well as 2 Battlewagons (partially assembled and primed). I'll post the start of the month pics and WIP's when I get home. I thought I was making good progress on my Necrons (I've been painting while on vacation) ... until I counted up the ones that I had done the silver overcoat and realized I had another 49 to go ... sigh.

Basic scheme will be contemporary rusty. The figures were primed with Rustoleum Camo Brown, randomly splotched with a wash of Vermin Brown and Blazing Orange, and then heavily overbrushed with VMC Gunmetal. I was planning on giving each figure a brown wash and then a lighter drybrushing of Gunmetal, but was happy with they way they are now. The wash would have effectively doubled the work and I'm not convinced it would add that much. More later.

As always, C&C's welcome. I'm trying out lots of new things this year: weathering, Necrons, more vehicles. I'm learning tons.

That Tau vehicle is amazing.

I hope we don't have to wait six months for the next challenge update.

Here's what I started out with at the beginning of July, 95 (give or take) Necron Warriors in various states.

I cleaned off the static grass of some and simply primed over the previous paint. I didn't bother with stripping the paint. After some diligent work over the 4th of July weekend, I got the orange splash and the gunmetal overcoat done on all of them.

At least they're all looking uniform. Here's a close up. The gunmetal is heavily overbrushed a dark brown primer base that has been splotched here and there with a Vermin Brown/Blazing Orange wash. My kids helped me here.

First wave of Necrons completed; 33 warriors ... 64 more to go. I will probably do a single highlight on the hose, but these are effectively done. This satisfies my Troops commitment for July. I'll post clearer close ups when I get them all done.

Got my basic sand down and glued in the green tubes on the remaining 64 Warriors. The terrible thing about painting 100 at a time is that you look at the 30 you just did and think you're making great progress, then realize you still have another 70 to do ... sigh. Back to the salt mines.

Hopefully, I'll have my brown wash on the sand tonight and then can drybrush the bases and add the grass over the weekend. That will more or less finish off the Warriors and give me the rest of the month to work on my Battlewagons.

Sand washed and drybrushed on 56 Warriors. I hope to get grass down and finish off the eyes tonight, so that I can post pics of 89 completed Warriors this weekend. Dang, that's a lot of Necrons.

Nice work Ifurita. I understand your pain, as I started painting 3 mobs of ork boys about two weeks ago (Axes, Swords, and Rippas). At least your Necrons pretty much have the same details across all the models.

I can't decide if I want to shake the hand of the guy that modeled the ork boys, or drag him out to the street and run him over with a car. SM are so much easier to paint.

Hi there,

I've got to say that I check your website most days to see what's going on. You're an inspiration man! Your (along with The Army Painter's) website taught me to forget quality and focus on quantity. After all, quantity has a quality all of it's own!

I've found my true painting style and it's not hardlining power armour and layering with thin coats of paint. It's about washing, drybrushing, watering down my paints and letting them do there own thing... with the help of flow improver, though!

But my secret ingredient is The Army Painter's SOFT tone. It's magic and can be combined with all other miniature painting techniques. Honestly I can't describe just how awesome it is.

Anyway, cheers!

Cosmic.

P.S. All the best with your projects, that's a HELLUVA lot of Necron Warriors!

I need to update my web site more often, lots going on in 2010. I find that I have to accept some realities if I'm going to get all of my crap painted. I could spend 5 hours on one Marine, but at that rate, things will never get done and realistically, most of the finest details will get missed across the tabletop.

Not saying that your stuff isn't quality... no, far from it! But it's not Golden Daemon standard if you get me. Unfortunately GW doesn't realise that we're in fact people with other responsibilities, who would also like to have Apocalypse/huge-size collections. Something's gotta give! Seriously, some of their painting guides aren't realistically acheivable, and the ones that are generally aren't that good. Hey what's that noise?...

*Whoosh! Kaplunk!*

Hey, gimme back my soap box you pesky GW models... Don't make me put you back in the army case!

Don't worry, I understood. After all, the first line in the Welcome page is, "If you're looking to paint Golden Deamons, you're probably at the wrong place."

89 Necron Warriors (1600 points) are completed. Here they are, next to the Monolith I finished in February.

Close up

Color notes
- Primed with Rustoleum Camo Brown
- Splotched in various spots with a thinned mix of Vermin Brown and Blazing Orange (kids helped me with this)
- Overbrushed with VMC Gunmetal Grey
- Hoses and eyes were done with Snot Green; hoses were further highlighted with Goblin Green and Scorpion Green. The eyes got a dot of Scorpion Green in the middle.

Overall, pretty happy with the way they turned out. The brown primer coat + the splotched wash gives the metal an older worn look, which is what I was trying for.

You paint fast, Ifurita. I know it's because you have other responsibilities, but you've
always been able to say "I'm going to paint THIS" and then you go and do it. That's
very admirable.

Of course ... Hadn't clicked onto that bit in a while!

Here's what's on deck for the last half of the year. The good news is that I'm running out of figures ... so I've definately worked down my backlog:

August - Elite
September - Fast Attack
October - Heavy Support
November - Painter's Choice
December - Objective Marker

For the Elite choice, I'd do the 6 AOBR Terminators to meet the requirement. 14 Destroyers are on deck for the Fast Attack requirement in September. The Dragon posted a nice WIP of a Necron Pylon (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/306008.page), which I think I'd like to copy. I think I can actually do that in the next two months along with the pair of Battlewagons I've been assembling.

For October's Heavy, I have a pair of Broadsides and a pair of Hammerheads which will probably get pulled out. I don't have a good plan for what I will do for November and December. I still have 11 or so Crisis Suits to do and I need to come up with an Objective. I may take one of my kids Bionicle containers and turn it into the head of Chaos titan (detached) which would make for a cool objective.

Finally got down to working on my 2 battlewagons again. I'm painting the inside of the cab and the crew compartment, then I'll glue on the roofs.

The front ram is magnetized so that I can swap it out with the death roller. I left the top of the turret unglued and magnetized the 2 weapons supports so that I can swap out Kill Kannon, Zzap gun or the regular gun.

Next step, once the wash on the interior is dry, is to attach the roofs and mud up the wheels.
