Are you talking about the book with the huge "Sold Out" stamp on it?
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1491877&prodId=prod800015a

Guess it is not available directly from GW and you are again too late (as with the photo booth set)

Before you ask: Rulers, dice and Beatsmen magic cards are also direct only and almost sold out.

i don't see how your suprised, they were never meant to go to any stores, hence the order only stamp next to it in the july issue of WD.

You know what this really bugs me and I don't want to sound aggressive or offend anyone, because we all love the same things. But did no one actually read the description on the collectors edition? It clearly states and has always stated it is Web Exclusive. Why are so many people complaining they didn't get one when all you had to do was click add to basket? I appologise if this causes people to be offended but it was clearly stated on both the website and Incoming Email.

But like some people have said, ebay will soon be selling a few copies no doubt for double or triple the amount.

Funny thing is that even the standard magic cards are already sold out and won't be available at release date 10th July. They have to be reprinted and will be available several weeks after (maybe 3 weeks).

Maybe because GW told me I could order 3 books per store, and they were ordered on the first day they were available? I wouldn't have told a customer "Yes, I can get that." if it was a limited product. I feel like crap having told long term customers I could get them something, and then having to tell them different, right before the books come out.

So to summarize:
1) GW announces Collectors editions.
2) It says "website only".
3) Retailer calls GW and asks "Is this true, I can't get them at all?"
4) Retailer is told "We can put in the order. It goes in like any other web order. You can have 3".
5) Order goes in first day.
6) Weeks later retailer notices his list of orders doesn't include collectors editions, and has to tell customers he's lame and didn't really have them somehow.

Hoping this is an abberation. I've had good service from GW for years. Getting stiffed like this surprises me.

yeah I bet GW realized they would make so much more if they just sold it themselves and changed their mind. Bet a bunch of other stores out there got screwed too.

While bashing GW is fun, I suspect it's more likely that it sold a little better online than they had expected (The 40K collector's edition got a pretty lukewarm response, after all) and they just ran out before filling the few store orders they received from store owners who thought to question the 'exclusive' tag...

That is exactly what happened. 8th edition is already a success saleswise with all limited runs almost sold out and even regular items like the magic cards sold out temporarily.

If you want a collectors edition for collecting wait until the next edition is announced. Why is this you ask? Look at the prices for previous edition collector books on ebay and you will know.

I'd feel better about it if my order hadn't gone in the morning of the first day they were available to place orders.

My bet is they collected all the store orders, and they got punched into the system at the end of the day, after other orders got place. Strangely, other retailers I talk to are getting them.

As anyone may have noticed, I'm generally pretty "Rah, Rah, GW!" and get labeled a GW apologist all the time. Takes quite a bit to piss me off, but this did. I don't like breaking promises to customers.

It's cool mike, wasn't your fault after all I was planning to get the collector book just for the shelf and use the new starter set rulebook to take with me for games. Still gonna get the starter set anyway, I don't wanna lug around a 500 page book every time I wanna play

The stuff I gotta pack sometimes is getting out of hand. I need to get me a little midget caddy or something.

There's been a few oddities like this over here as well. Things like the special dice, Engineers tool set and the like we were told were web only and this was repeated by an area manager last week.. and then literally two hours or so later the store delivery turned up which included a half dozen or so of the web only sets...

guessing it's only gonne be available direct from GW...
If an item is clearly limited edition and may be difficult to get and I really feel I must have it I always order it from GW as soon as it appears on their website. Taking a chance on whether or not an independent seller will get some is a good way to be disappointed. Such items can even be difficult or impossible to get at GW retail shops. If you really want it, don't take chances, order it when and where you know for sure you can get it and that is as soon as it appears on the GW website. After seeing how some items have disappeared almost immediately in the past like the Urban Basing Kit, Tau Piranha splash box of 3 and the Apocalypse Vortex Grenade Template I don't take any chances with limited items that I really want.

Funny thing: Even the standard rulebook is getting rare and not all stores get the quantity they ordered. Grimthug over at Warseer wrote:
Some unwelcome news awaited me when I went into the game store I co-own over the lunch hour (from the job that pays the mortage).

It seems that GW under-estimated the demand for 8th edition and we where informed that we would not be recieving the 20 books we had preordered this week. I spoke with our sales rep at GW (I managed to keep my temper-barely) and he said that about 20% of accounts would not be recieving the books this week but that we "should" be able to have them next week. He then recommended that we see if we could acquire some from our other wholesalers like Alliance Games. I then asked if this had become such an issue why where not all of thier business partners only receiving 80% of their pre-orders so that they did not screw over 20% of thier "partners" with lost sales. He informed me that they did not discover the issue until today and that it was too late to change those orders already billed.

Luckily for us we where able to to acquire some from Alliance games so we will have product for the event planned for Friday but I would be lying to you all if I didn't say how pissed off I am.

Just for eveyones information, our store has been a partnership level account for years and we do a large GW business so I don't think our size had anything to do with us getting the short (and pointed) end of the stick.

I was already upset when we were unable to get any of the collectors edition or of the bagged editons because they where oversold online but to be denied access to a new core game book because of a failure to properly gauge sales interest smacks of the type of screw up that ends someones career.

Thanks for letting me rant, but I also wanted to warn other stores in the same boat to reach out to thier other suppliers ASAP.

Where's Kan to defend them???

See Kan, this is a bad busines model.

You re-write the core rules of 1 of your 3 main products and then don't have enough rulebooks to hand out?

Who does this?

Your entire WHFB player base NEEDS this new rulebook.

It's the MAIN FRIGGEN BOOK!

ok it's as follows:

1) you tell fan base that you'll update rules every 4 years.
2) it comes up to the first print run, but this fan base isn't the biggest you have so you don't run MEGA-LOADS you run a couple thousand (/tens of thousands?)
3) people find out that your game is the original and become interested/ players become re-interested in the game they stopped playing years ago.
4) surprise influx of new players means you run out of copies of your new rules and can't meet supply demands.

you can argue that the entire player base needs rules but when you don't have a MASSIVE player base to begin with you dont run many incase you over-supply.

I'll defend this. They didn't run out of the main rulebook, they ran out of the COLLECTOR's EDITION which is a limited edition item.

Usually it's a good business decision to run out of a limited edition item rather than have them sitting on a shelf somewhere. Now maybe they should have made another thousand of the things but it's not like they ran out of the regular rulebook.

If they'd have actually placed my order like a regular web order, I'd be getting my books. This didn't sell out immediately, and my order should have been placed very early the first day.

Just glad I have my regular books coming in for my stores. As noted, they had some problems with a pallet of damaged goods, and stronger orders than expected, and are out until next week.
