Im looking for that last heavy unit for my 2000 point army and it is currently a toss up between a Vindicator or a Dev squad with 4 las cannons.
Here is the list so far:
HQ-Gabriel seth(running with 5 terms)
EL-Assault term squad x 5,TH&SS w/LR redeemer, x armor
EL-Assault term squad x 6,TH&SS w LR redeemer, x armor
Assault squad x 10, 2 melta gun, powerfist
Assault squad x 10, 2 melta gun, powerfist
BAAL Predator, x armor

I like the squad for the number of shots and ability to stay in cover. I also like the Vindicator for its mobility and the fact that it can easily become anti infantry or anti tank due to large blast AP2
In your best educated opinion, which heavy choice might round out my army the best?

Well, generally speaking, you always want to run more than 1 Vindicator if you're running them. Otherwise the single one gets turned into molten slag on the first turn.

You do realize that all of your heavies are free. LRs are Deticated Transports for BA.

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

Altanis wrote Vindicare. Hes like Santa he watches when your sleeping. He knows when your awake. I doesn't matter if youve been bad or good because the inquisition put a hit out on you and a shield breaker round is gonna go through your head when your eating your weaties.

Can't believe I missed that right there. Damn Blood Cheese.

Anyway, 2-3 Vindicators! You have an effective threat radius of 36", because they're fast! Move 12", pop your Demolisher cannon, something dies.

I agree entirely.

You probably only need two Vindis. Just imagine if they could scout move as well. * evil grin *

Devestators would be left all alone and unsupported, while Vindicators would add mechanized target saturation.

The list is real light on troops, and BA assault marines are rock hard.

2 troops is really light at 2,000, and way too light for 2,500. If you're going to take 2 land raiders and 2 terminator squads you're just not going to have that much left for fast attack and heavy support. BA don't need all of their fast attack/heavy support slots filled. If you're going to run 1,000 points of your list tied up in land raiders and termies something will have to be sacrificed, and that something should be fast attack or heavy support. If the sacrifice is troops that will really backfire in objective based games.

You need troops, and some priests. At 2,500 points 30 assault marines is running real light on troops, 20 would be inviting disaster in objective based games.

Do you have priests in your army? You could replace 1 termie with a terminator priest, and have brother Korbolo take the 1 free power armor slot in Seth's Land Raider.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
