So, I've been wondering which of these two units to take in my footslogging Ork list.

15 Kommandoes with Snikrot, and 2 burnas?

Or 20 Stormboys with a PK nob and bosspole.

The Kommando unit is cheaper, and for the same price you could have 15 Stormboys and Zagstruk, but I don't use him because deepstriking is risky with them.

So, which one do you think would be more effective as a unit to stay in reserve?

To stay in reserve? The kommandos, hands down. They can appear on any edge and wreak havoc. Whether stormboyz work for your army or not depends on whether you can have them advancing with the rest of your stuff. For example, if you're running mechanized, stormboyz are OK because they can keep up, but mean you're taking fewer vehicles which means the vehicles you have will die faster. If you're running horde, stormboyz are only good for hitting a flank one turn before the horde strikes.

If you're running lots of bikers/other stormboyz, then more stormboyz is a good fit.

The special ork stormboy character is worth taking. His ability to come in from deep strike, assault that turn, and then have his leg act as a powerklaw is insane. You just need as small of a squad as possible to make the trick work, as they are there just to deliver the special character.

Snikrot is another special character worth taking. If your trying to save points, take him with 10 boys. The burnas are awesome, but can be passed by if your really tight on points.

In summary, I would say take both with special characters. They both give huge advantages.

Well my list is footslogging as I said. I don't want to throw the stormboys towards them piecemeal and get wiped out. So I'd hold them in reserve, and when they come in, they can use their speed to get to where they are needed.

But I wondered if Kommandoes did it better.

Snikrot coming off any edge is ridiculous. Add that to his own S6 rending attacks on the charge and either 2 templates or 6 power weapon attacks from the burnas. They can pretty much kill anything the turn they come on.

Started wargaming with heroscape. Who says kids can't be generals?

If your choice is one OR the other, go with Snikrot and the Kommandos.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Snikrot and Kommandos. Further, attach an IC to him if possible for added fun. It won't win you any friends and in a tourney, you'll have to confirm with the tournament organizer beforehand that this is allowed (Adepticon has ruled it works, but they are by no means official), but it can be devastating to have warboss or god forbid, Ghazghkull attached to run wild off any board edge. Personally, I keep the kommando squad size very small, as they usually die immediately after their ambush, but YMMV.

Hmmm, well I actually use Ghazghull in that list, so yeah....

That would be interesting. But would make absolutely no sense! Like fluffwise.

Sounds like Snikrot is the winner by a long shot to me.

Hands down the Kommandos. Charging 13 Boys, 2 power weapons, and Snikrot into combat every turn will draw much fire away from the horde.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.
