Bryan Ansells wonderful collection of early Citadel Miniatures is currently being phhotographed and catalogued.

There is a great thread on Frother's showing these gems from the 1980's! Older farts among us will remember many of them from White Dwarf, the Citadel Companion, Realms of Chaos, and of course much box art and the like!

Enjoy!

Was the chaos android ever released? Necron precursors and chums of the Chaos Squats. I know they appeared in Space Crusade but they were only crude plastics.

Guess I'll have to subscribe to this, so I can use the subscription as a reminder to check the thread out from home.

Beautiful, brings a tear to eye to sees these old minis.

Really takes me back. What amazes me most is how much the hobby has come along in painting, basing and sculpting.

I remember the time when Chaos meant "funny mutations". Now sadly it just means "Spikes and MOAR SKULLZ!"

Checked out the link. A bit of a trip down memory lane. Painting of GW minis has gone ahead light years compared to a lot of this stuff, as has the carving. A lot of the minis would be lucky to get a "5" on CMON, or even on the Dakka galleries. Still, some very nice minis for all to check out.

Well, the sculpting and the painting were a little cruder back then (although still at a level I would aspire to myself right now!) than they are today. But somehow newer models lack a certain personality, character and humour I think. Everything is too serious now. Back then, fun was at the heart of things. They may have been less professional, but they were definitely more enjoyable!

I couldn't agree with you more. I'll take character over a lot of minis produced nowadays. *coughrozorgorcough*

That version was the one that appeared on the back of the box, but the model inside (at least in my version) was a slightly sleeker version, more Terminator-like with a longer gun.
That looks identical to the paint job on the back of the box, I don't think this was ever a metal model.

The painted examples of the figures on the Space Crusade and Heroquest games are not what you get in the box. I think they are all metal castings or prototypes for the studio, if you look at the painted Heroquest figures you can tell they are not the same as the plastics you get in the box.

For instance, here are pics of the plastic Heroquest elf and the one pictured on the box.

They don't even look the same, the hands are completely different.

Elsewhere I've now found this...

Which probably answers my first question. Doesn't look like they were released for sale. :(

Compensating what makes you think I'm... OK. Fine. I'm compensating.

Geeze, you can tell he'll never get a codex and a line of plastic models.

Completely awesome thread! Found it a week late, but that link has a lot of pages to the thread already... maybe some enterprising fellow can consolidate the best of the pics here for those of us who are lazier

Edit: Well, couldn't resist going through the thread myself, and I'll contribute one I really liked
