From Da Warpath some snippets about the upcoming O&G army book, Fantasy campaigns and legendary battles, as heard at the Warhammer launch event in Warhammer World, Nottingham:

Draig wrote:Just got back from the launch event at Warhammer World and I have to say it was excellent. Practically the whole studio was there. They had cases of models that made your head spin, including the Orc seige tower from the huge legendary game and the squiggadon. I managed to get my collector's edition signed by Mat Ward, Phil Kelly, Jervis, Jeremy Vetock and the entire team of artists, then Rick Priestly and John Blanche stopped by as well and added their squiggles. Fantastic morning, even if I had to get up at 5am and catch 5 trains to get there!

I tried to do a bit of digging, but no one was giving too much away.

I asked Jervis about the possibility of Warhammer apocalypse and he said that he doubted there would be a Warhammer apocalypse book per se, like they did for 40k, but that they will be releasing lots of things in that vein as they roll the next set of army books out. They want the process to be a bit more integrated rather than seeming like an add on. This is why a lot of the large scale things are in the rulebook already.

I also chatted to him about his latest studio campaign (mainly to shamelessly steal ideas for Animosity!) and about the possibility of future online campaigns. He said that it would be very unlikely GW would run something like Storm of Chaos again (partly because of the work, and partly because it got a bit out of control and started drivinig the storyline, which they never intended). However he did say that interactive events in a similar scale, but less world changing are on the cards starting later this year.

Also managed to corner Jeremy Vetock. First up, this guy is fantastic! Maybe I'm saying that because he seems to approach the hobby in the exact same way I do, but I'm very happy he's writing the new book. Unfortunately he confirmed it'll be a while before ours is out. It's on the horizon, but don't hold your breath kinda deal. He asked me what I'd like in a new Orc book and (as a kavalree git) I gave him a few suggestions. I said I thought Boar Boyz should be core, and he agreed (yippee!). I also asked him about Black Orc Boar Boyz but he just grinned. He's keen to add a large monster of some sort to the book as well so we'll have to see what happens. We also had a chat about Orc fluff ad how there really aren't any good stories in the Orc army books. I think he's got an eye on changing that which is fantastic news. Finally, I made him aware of DWP, which he wasn't, so no poopin in da isles gitz, just in case ee shows up!

Finally Rick Priestly confirmed that various drafts of the new army book are floating round and he's seen them. He wouldn't go into details though, of course, and they are apparently very embryonic.

That's all gits. I really came away with the feeling that there's a stack of fun coming our way. Great time to be a Warhammer player I think.

Sounds great. A bit lame that the pics on the GW site are of middle aged nerds rather than figures.

^^ When I read the post about the crates of figures and the seige tower and whatnot, I thought sweet. That thought was still making a few laps around the brain when I went to the GW link. Then I see JJ sporting his Jihadi beard sans seige tower.

I have to wait another 5 weeks before the book is on sale here in J-pan. I am sad.

^^ Seriously?!! On the GW Japan site they have the countdown for 31 days or so. I must have made a mistake. Maybe that is for the box set or something. Thanks for the tip, dude. Of course, I'm still going to have to wait for payday on the 23rd.

Really?

Ah, just had a look. That's the countdown to 流血島, I can't read the first kanji but the second one is "blood" and the last is "island". So what they're counting down to is not the rulebook, but the Island of Blood starter set.

Does this mean some pics of what is in that damn box are coming soon?

A clarification:
Jervis was more indicating a release of legendary units accompanying or shortly after an army book release (e.g. WD article), not them included in an army book.

Another local GW manager has seen the digital image of a Dwarven "Ancester cannon" about double the size of a normal cannon (thanks to Formosa from Warseer for this rumour). Such big cannons are part of official background, e.g. featured in the recent Malekith novel. So GW might consider doing a model of it.

There was also the Empire equivalent of the "Ancestor Cannon" that was in the Storm of Chaos campaign book as artwork, wherein it needed a team of Giants to load it.

I would stand well away from that cannon when a giant needs to figure out how he is going to attack in close combat by rolling a die they just might load it backwards.

Blood Island - All I can think of is the Dethklok Movie. Kanji number one means "flow" or "splash" methinks. Bloodshed Island, Bloodsoaked Island. My wife just said 'Blood bath'. What's the English name?

@JOHIRA are you in Osaka or Nagoya? I'm heading down to Nagoya for a few days in August, do you know of any cool hobby shops?

Bobo the Vampire Monkey wrote:Yo. As discussed HERE I was lucky enough to pop around to Warhammer World today and check out all the cool voodoo going on with the release of the new edition. While I was there I managed to corner Jervis Johnson, Mat Ward and a couple of the other guys behind writing the rules and FAQs, and with their collective permission thought I would share the following tidbits. From the horse’s mouth, as it were:

  • [*]The FAQ documents are now being considered as a Customer Service feature, making them an essential element of looking after players and making sure they can play the game without hassle. This means regular updates and staff members assigned to keeping FAQ documents and erratas up to date and as clear as possible.
[*]The FAQ/Errata documents which were released yesterday were the forerunners of ongoing ‘living’ documents. Thanks to player feedback and outside contribution certain elements which need amendment have already been identified and version 1.1 of the documents will be published on the Games Workshop website in the coming week. (For those interested, this includes the Ring of Hotek contradiction, the silly Wardancer combat specification, clearing up of the Steam Tank confusion, and completely rewording the description of Steadfast and Strength In Numbers to make it very clear what is intended.)
[*]In addition to the army specific FAQ documents there is going to be a general rulebook supplement released in the coming week. The rules guys were pretty tight lipped about the contents of this one, but according to Mat Ward it is an all-round clarification and ‘tidy up’ of rules wordings that have, since hitting the shelves, been found lacking.
[*]For those of you who were wondering, there is apparently NOT going to be a new document amending/increasing the casting values of race specific magic lores.

  • There were some other interesting things I talked with the Warhammer Celebs about, like Mat Ward saying he liked the idea of ‘trimming the edges off the power scale’ and Jervis explaining how this time they’d created a rules set that the designers felt was not only fun and functional to play, but also to write.

In summary I’d just like to say that I think Games Workshop and all of the guys behind the rules have really impressed me with what they’ve said will be a much more reliable and ready ‘rules response’ function for the hobby. Everyone makes mistakes, and it’s unfortunate for the Dev Team that theirs are published in writing for the rest of the world to see, but they were very genuine when I spoke to them and keen to make the game as playable for people as physically and logistically possible. Well done, guys.

    Regards,

    Bobo
