Ive been reading the Soul Drinkers omnibus and I am about 2/3 of the way through the second book. (so please no spoilers if you can help it)

I was wondering what Codex you would suggest for a Soul Drinkers army.

With what I know of them so far, I am thinking the Blood Angels Codex might be a pretty close fit. They like the Close quarters 'Hard and Fast' method of warfare.

Does this sound reasonable ? or should I wait till Ive read more ?

I dont want to go with a CSM codex if I can help it. I think most of their oddities can be covered with regular marine rules.

Anyway, thanks for your advice.

I happen to love the Soul Drinkers as well, and pondered this too a while back. The new Blood Angels codex fits pretty well, but you should read the omnibus until the end before you make the army list. You'll see why.
(No spoiler from me though)

They're related to Imperial Fists by blood so it should REALLY be Vanilla.

BUT, seeing as they're now outside the normal codexes i'd be tempted to take them down the Black Templar / Blood Angels rules route.

I wouldn't go for Codex CSM bu I wouldn't go gor BA either. I would go for Normal marines. My blackreach marines are painted as soul-drinkers. I just use them as CSM to fill the gaps.(still have to buy most for my chaos army)

I too like the Soul Drinkers,i am just waiting for the last book to arrive to see what happens in the very end.I do plan to paint some up for my SM army,to use them as Loyalist before their fall from grace.I would use the normal codex, you only have to take the basic 2 Troop choices and can fill it out with Assault squads and a few Terminators.
