Yo Yo Yo!

The Chapterhouse Studios Heresy Heads that I ordered from America are here, rather timely, and are fantastic looking! Will be recommending them to Friends! However, some of the Helmets have Spikes on top. One has Snapped Off in Transit, and another Helmet - which has several Spikes - has been bent slightly, so they look... they look like my messy hair, actually.

I was wondering how to fix this? The last time I had to fix something Bent on a Miniature, it was a Power Sword - I heated it with a Hair Dryer for a few moments, and then it bent back into place quite easily. I held it until it cooled, and it stayed there. Would the same work with Resin? And should I do this before, or after I was them?

Thanks,

Popsicle

Warm-to-hot (NOT boiling) water works better.
If your skin tingles when it's in it, it's too hot.

It's what any customer of Forge World has to learn how to do if they don't already know.

So it should bend reasonably easily, and without breaking, in warmish water? They're actually quite brittle, hence the one got Damaged in Postage. I assume.

You'll feel the resin become soft and pliable, you won't need to use force to bend it. If the parts resist you and want to bend back to their original position then the resin is still too cool. Once you get the shape you want hold it in position or even dip in coold water to set it quicker.

By the way, just as you can bend it when warm you can squash or stretch it. There's no real coming back from deforming it in this manner and it's easy to do if the resin is too hot.

That makes me nervous! Maybe I'll just take off the Spikes. Although, I had better give it a try first, eh?

Hi tried the hot water as well as the air dryer method. I bent them to the desired position , and by the time i check on them a hour later ,
they are back into their bendy shape :/ anyone know why?

Or you could take pictures of the damaged parts and drop them an email. I did this with a couple of broken pieces that arrived from maxmini and they replied almost immediately saying that they'd ship replacements as soon as possible. Great customer service in my opinion.

Mysterious... maybe try the 'Dipping in Cold Water' to ensure they set faster?

Incidentally... why does Dakka think I'm Polish?

Just use warm water and take your time. It'll be fine. I usually have a bowl of warm and a bowl of cold water handy. Some people use a hairdryer but that's risky because the resin can get very hot rather quickly.

How flexible were they when you bent them? Some resins/plastics have a bit more memory in them. If so heat them for longer until they are much softer, get the shape and rapidly cool in cold water.

It's just faster than letting it cool in the air, sometimes you'll have a fiddly bit that needs to set at just the right angle so you'll want to hold it just right and cool it quicker.

Oh, okay. Thanks! I'll give it a try shortly, then. Is there much chance of deforming the actual Helmet?

Thin little parts like spikes will bend before the thicker pieces so you shouldn't have a problem with the helmets deforming unless you are rough with them or use boiling water.
