You can have the total cost of the character/unit and cost of the army there.

Just cant have it like

Char 1 20 points
Item 1 15 points
item 2 25 points
mount 20 points
total 80

You can have

Char 1
Item 1
Item 2
Mount
Total 80

You're running 2 wizards -- are either of them level 2? In 8th ed, you're going to be at a disadvantage against players with a level 4 right off the bat. You'll probably want to consider adding the rod of power to the list so you can transfer power dice into your dispel pool if you're up against a level 4.

Alternatively, you could merge both level 2s into a level 4 with the lore of light and give him the rod of power. It will give you better dispelling, better offensive magic, and only cost you 10 points more.

If I remember the banner of duty correctly, it lets you reroll failed panic checks. If you can find a way to squeeze in a Battle Standard Bearer into the list, you can reroll failed panic checks (and fear, and terror, and break tests) on all units within 12"!

Do the Spearmen have shields? If not, halberds are almost always the better choice combat effectiveness wise. Additionally the buff spells from the lore of light are more effective IMO on halberds than on Spears. If you want to go with 3 units of spears, you may want to consider the lore of metal on the level 4 and possibly a level 2 wizard with the lore of beasts.

Just a few comments, I hope that helps.

Solid list overall. I'd personally go with characters supporting the line infantry or a BSB at the very least. Ld 7 only goes so far and the General cannot be everywhere.

Steam Tanks are pretty useless now that nearly all spells affect them. Well, 'useless' is perhaps a bit harsh but they are certainly not worth 300 points when your opponent can take metal for example.

I would split the outriders up into 2 groups - you really don't need a second rank as you won't be charging them into anybody's flank - they are there to simply put out a crap load of shots.

Agree also with dropping the Steam Tank - just can't see it being worth it now.

Your general of the empire - eh - not very impressive. I'd rather go with an Archlector or higher level wizard or something more.

Are those detachments for each spearmen block? If so - pretty good. I'm more of a fan of swordsmen, as they have a better WS and at least have a parry save, but with your Int 3, spearmen are usually going after everyone else or at best simultaneously.

I would drop a cannon and maybe look at adding a pair of mortars - they got better now and give you something to help deal with big enemy blocks of troops.

Each spearman block does have 2 detachments. I chose spearmen for the large block because they can fight in three ranks if they don't charge, also they stand and shoot with the handgunners while countercharging with the halberdiers. I may try different weapons to see which works the best. Changed wizard t0o, I was just thinking for defensive purposes two level ones would be better than a level three. The outriders are split too... one more long rifle sounds good to me!

As far as the wizards defensively - keep in mind the Warrior Priests and Archlectors still give you bonus dispel dice, added on top of what you get from the winds of magic.

Other than the choice of general (personel preference), not a bad list - warmachine heavy, but thats what alot of the empire lists people are coming up with now seem to look like.

Spearmen are terrible. Halberdiers and swordsmen are the way to go.
