I've been told for a Ogre Kingdoms army to be legal you must have at least one unit of ogre bulls. Is this true? I intended to make an army consisting of Greasus Goldtooth along with the two units of 16 ironguts without any ogre bulls in the army. Let me know if this doesn't or if you want to see my army list to make it easier to understand.

Yes it is true, if you read the armybook you will notice "1+" next to the Bulls entry.
Goldtooth may change this rstriction, however if you do not find this in their special rules you are still you requierd to have some bulls.

I don't believe that limitation applies anymore.
There is a note in the upper left of page 134 that states, in a one-off contradiction to the standing rule of use the army books and then the BRB, it says use the rules in the BRB for compiling an army. And that is strictly % based with a few special rules allowed like, "does not count as core choice" and stuff like that.

Except it does not specifically overide the Ogre book, as it does not mention "ignoring compulsory choices" - from what i can see.
Another one for the FAQ?

Doesn't the new rules state that you must have Minimum 3 units aside from the Leader in your army?
Its in the BRB about Army Configuration.

epic, from what i am aware, you can have a leader and a single unit, so long as that single unit is more than 25% of you points (character can be up to another 25%)
So you could in theory take gold tooth, then throw the rest of the points into irons if needs be.

Nope, I looked it up. Three Min units in addition to lord and heroes. Pg 134.

Thanks for all the replies, i may just run with bulls in my core rather than the aformentioned irongut units.

Its in the BRB about Army Configuration.
I wasn't saying i was using JUST Greasus and two 16-strong units of ironguts, since i was also going to include two 2-model units of leadbelchers and a unit of maneaters. The plan was to use Greasus because i like his rules, and i can't use him in a 2000point army due to the 25% point maximum limit on the lord slot (65points over). Then fill out the 3000pts with rare and special choices.
I guess i could argue the point with the changes in the BRB, but isn't the general rule of thumb to refer to the relevant army book to reach a decision? Guess its food for thought.
Some might also argue it just applies to the 'system' of the army book, rather than individual compulsory choices (as nosferatu1001 said).
I'll probably just compromise and skip the ironguts (which i was hoping to model and paint to match the 'goldtooth tribe' since they are modelled with more armour that could incorporate the golden paint theme). It may not be a tourney legal list with no bulls, and i don't want to deal with complaints from any potential opponents at the local GW store.

Make it 2999, thats the point at which an army is at max for a "normal" army - at 3k people can bring 4 steam tanks if they want...

Actually, the FAQ says to ignore the rule stating what 1+ and 0-1 mean. "ignore pages 66, 67" the only page to explain what those numbers mean.

*sigh* Please multiply 3000 by 25%, then realise that a steam tank is 300 points, then speak again.

Or how about not being obnoxious and avoiding replying to a thread that is done and dusted with a post that adds absolutely no content?
*SIGH*
Still, the reason holds, and there are lots of special and rare units that you could spam multiples of at 3k (say, 6BT) that would be imbalanced compared to 2999.

How about not being obnoxious and replying to a thread that someone insulted you in just to get the last word? OWAIT!
Also, your math fail is fail. Bolt throwers are generally 2 for 1, so dwarfs for instance can take 12 bolt throwers in 3k. High elves can take as many as they want up to 25% in the rare (quick 2999 x .25 /100 = ?)
Anyway, pot, meet kettle.

Dark Elves can take 2 for 1, so at sub 3k can take a max of 4 (depending on points) but at 3k can only take 7. So your mathS is "fail" as I was taking the lower bound which you entirely missed....HE can take the same number at 3k as well. So not 12. So saying *6* was fairly close to the lower bound, and only talks about rare slots. Specal choices dont get a look in...
