Fisrt off this is NOT discussing legallity / tos / what blizzard will do.

This is a petition for the admins / mods to disallow the selling of WoW accounts in the swap shop. Here are my reasons against it.

I feel this site is more about tabletop gaming than video gaming and I would like it to stay that way.

There are many sites and people who sell WoW accounts and power leveling and I do not want the swap shop clogged with threads about this.

WoW accounts will cause more trade issues as accounts are stolen and hacked daily not to mention how easy is it to "sell" an account then claim it stolen and get it back (all you need is c/c number and billing info)

Any account sold is liable to be perma banned and the recipient will lose their money/trade items.

It is with these issues in mind that I and any who sign this thread ask the mods to disallow the sale/trade of WoW accounts in the swap shop.

If you agree with what I've said just reply with "I agree" or any additional insight you have.

For the poll option A is agree, option B is disagree.

Again this is not a discussion of morality/legality it is a petition asking the mods / admins to change something. If you disagree just don't sign.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

I agree, its too easy for people to get scammed, or have the account they purchased banned and thus the item they traded for rendered useless.

I had an email a month ago from Blizzard telling me my account has been closed due to possible illegal activity... ... ... o..k... whatever.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Aye, too easy for the account to be banned and both participants to lose out leaving a heck of an issue for the swap shop to work out who refunds who.

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

As a frequent buyer/seller on Dakka Swap I do not believe that WoW accounts should be sold on Dakka Swap. Eventhough the MODs on the site allow WoW accounts to be traded while disvowing any responsiblity of the trade that this might keep Dakka from getting into trouble between the two individuals it still does not get them out of hot water with Blizzard since Dakka is allowing property of Blizzard to be sold, and most of the time sold across state and international lines. Blizzard can issue a C&D order to Dakka over the selling of WoW accounts or even possible file criminal charges for being the middle man for the selling and receiving of stolen property. I believe that the MODS should not allow the selling or trading of WoW accounts not because this is a tabletop wargaming site but because it is the legal and right thing to do.

As the OP said, aside from legalities and Blizzard-related repercussions, I say it's a good idea to prohibit account trading.

The swap shop can be hard enough to navigate without being clogged up with the number of bad trade threads that are likely to show up after a wave of account trades.

I've seen what happens when people trade Warhammer for WoW accounts...it ain't pretty!

If this site was dedicated to WOW, I'd have no problem with it. But I agree with the OP, this place should be about minis and/or "offline" gaming, and selling wow accounts here is just stupid. So I voted for number A.

I accidentally hit B, I meant A.

Its WoW people, theres no need to pay hundreds for an account. I've seen it done and then the account was banned. Not pretty. And I would hate to see anything happen to Dakka

I went with option color a as well. Too much risk involved and blizz seems to be pretty banhappy lately.

Ugh.

Petition away, but the owners of this site have already stated what their position is.

And, as with ANY trade on Dakka, if you don't like the terms, or the potential risks, DON'T MAKE THE TRADE.

I voted B. Don't really care either way, but as Alpharius said, the owners have already stated their position. WoW trading will be allowed as long as it's for wargame related stuff, to keep in the spirit of these forums.

FYI, those are scammers trying to get you to login through their fake site so they can get your account info and sell it off for you.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Anyone who trades stuff for a WoW account does so at their own risk as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think the mods should be responsible for makeing sure that people don't do stupid things.

Sure people may get scammed out of their traded WoW account but you can get scammed in lots of other ways in the swap shop as well.

The difference is there's a system in place of dealing with mail fraud.

Getting scammed out of a Warcraft account leaves you no legal recourse, as it stands now.

I know the owners have stated their position but I'm hoping if enough dakka users want it changed they'll listen and change. Yes it may be futile but at least I can try.

If someone posts up they want one, let them, we allow trades for all kinds of crap.

if people have one, they shouldn't be trolling the waters looking for someone to buy it here.

Tradeing for a WoW account over the internet is simply a stupid thing to do.

If someone gets burned from tradeing for a WoW account they will get no sympathy for me.

< My head on a soapbox

Edit: I know that now it is only a few, and if it stays that way then I suspect that the offical position will not change. If the few becomes a flood however I suspect that the offical viewpoint will change. I think for now a simple addition to the "Swap Shap FAQ" about the harrazrds of tradeing for MMO accounts over the internet will do.

there are plenty of places to sell wow accounts other than a miniatures wargaming forum. i say don't allow it. if you do, then i want to sell my old deflated basketball here too as it's just about as related to wargaming as a wow account.

I don't have an issue with it myself. I'd never do it mind as the risks are too great.

I'll admit I always chuckle at that fella who had to have what was considered the Best Rogue in the US (I think, might have been EU) a year or so back. Character at the height of TBC had two warglaives of Azeroth, all the best gear etc.

Payed £5000 for the account, and Blizzard banned the account two weeks later. Ouch.

I sold my account for a very similiar amount, there's too many athletes/moviepeople/whatever with more money than skill or time that are willing to drop down on a top world ranked character to resist

Eternal Plague

A better policy would be for DakkaDakka is wait and see what happens. To ensure that the transaction is solely the responsibility of the interested parties, any deals involving WoW accounts should be left to the people in the deal and not drag the community or the mods into the fracas that will follow. That makes it more risky to deal with people bartering accounts because then the Swap Shop washes their hands on the matter and might make it not worth it to do such transactions on here where there are other more "legit" sites that tend to trade and sell WoW accounts.

You would need buyers to be able to sell those

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.
