I have been running a full lootas units with little success and wonder if buzz Koptas would a better use of points? 3 Koptas is the same price of the lootas and will let target more units but also gives up 3 easy kill points. If any one would care to share your experience these units I would be a grate help to me.

I fear lootas more than buzzsaw kopters. a kopter is only str7 on the charge, so even killing rhinos takes some doing (5's to penetrate, 5's to kill, isn't exactly good odds) plus it puts you close enough for me to blow them away, while lootas chill back and are in cover.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Lootas are also only str7 and almost always will be hitting front armor when Koptas can shoot TL rokkits and then assault rear armor with auto hits if I go first. Like you said they will be a easy kill after that. I just have very very bad luck with my lootas rolls.

you'll have just as bad luck with deffkoptas. TL rokkits aren't exactly accurate at BS2 anyway, and a unit that is only useful if your going first isn't really that great. Also, if your fighting anything OTHER than marines / guard, like nids, lootas are much better for putting down monstrous creatures.

Well the TK rokkits are really only a bonus attack and I will outflank them if I don't go first. I agree that it will be a huge wast of points if I play nids and leave me with nothing against MCs.

I have really never had good results with Buzzsaws very spendy and not the best of str. I saw run both!

I usually run copters at full 5 man with no upgrades. The lootas blow up the transport the copters shoot the goodies inside. The twin-linked goes a long way with big shootas.

Um, it's actually an 4+ to pen most vehicles in the game, 7+4=11. Most vehicles have a rear armor of 10.

OP 3 Koptas are only an easy 3 kill Points if you take them in units of 1 each; take a unit of 3 they become 1 not quite as easy kill point, and with the buzz saws are 9 S7 I1 Power weapons on the Charge.

Their main flaws beyond that is the lack of Cover save(vs Bikes), excepting when turbo boosting, and only 3 t-l BS2 shots in the shooting phase vs your d3x15 Autocannon shots with Lootas.

15,30, or 45 Str 7 Shots from 15 models in 4+cover is a lot better than 3 t-l Str 8 shots + 9 Str 7 Attacks with only 3 4+ armor Save models(even with the 2 wounds/model).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

There only ment to charge in and crack open a transport. Lol not ment for lasting power. I am just wondering if buzz Koptas will do a better job than lootas.

If lootas are the shooters that roll to see how many shots. It sucs going aginst them. I am using SW currently.
Dude, I am on another forums asking how to handle lootas.
My Ork opponent has 15 lootas in the backfield. The rest of the army is in trucks, turbo boosting. I send a lot of firepower to the Lootas including Ruin priest spell Living lightning. He starts the game in cover, behind a wall (that he places where he wants to deploy the lootas, During table set up)

Yeah that's them! I keep getting such bad rolls they never help all that much. Lol I feel like I need 2 full units so if ones rolls nothing I get another chance.

I don't know, I use em' in squads of 5 and they work great. The thing is I don't really need them to blow the vehicle they are shooting at up. If they do great but in the end as long as I slow it down or stop it from shooting for a turn then that's good enough for me, once my boys get there it will be over anywase.

Could it be that you are not fielding them optimaly? 2 units of 7 is usually better than 1 unit of 15. Maybe you need to position them better.. It also makes a difference what list you run them in. In a Mechanized list they are vunerable to fast vehicles, scouts and outflanking units. In a kan wall they are a god unit

Not sure if splitting into 2 small units is such a good idea with there low LD. Positioning can be a problem but I keep rolling 1s and will only get like 3 hits and none of them will wound or glance. I just wonder if a less random unit will be better use of points?

I use a unit of 10-14 lootas with 1 mekboy in a battlewagon with 4x Big shootas.

Because the vehicle is open topped everything in it can shoot out from the nearest point of the hull.

This basically gives you 12 S5 shots at 36" in addition to the loota fire, all from an AV14 bunker that leaves the lootas untouchable until the vehicle is destroyed (shaken still gives you issues but with a 48" range you can usually park the battlewagon on the back centre of your deployment and hit everything on the table, and be out of reach of a lot of weapons).

Additionally if someone moves some troops close to threaten to assault the battlewagon the lootas can assault out of the battlewagon and still dish out a respectable amount of attacks.

I've used this in many tournies and it's done very well in almost every game (the not so good times were when deepstriking melta stuff got near and popped the wagon).

I have thought about that set up but never tried it. The question I have is there a more reliable unit than lootas that can do the same job?

What? Shoot D3, Str 7, 48" range, shots - for 15 points? Nope. They are one of the best shooting units in the game.

I don't understand the premise of this. Why choose when they aren't in the same FOC slots? Take both, in large quantities. Don't tell me you actually spend points on boyz

As for buzzkoptas... S7 on the charge isn't exactly that great BTW. I would just take rokkit koptas, use the scout move to get sides shots with the rokkits, and make the opponent spend turns shooting at them. All the while hitting him with loota fire. You don't really need to kill what you shoot at with lootas or koptas, you just need to keep the enemies tanks from shooting while your PK units (the real PK units, like nobs, meganobs, and bikers, not slow ass reg boyz or flaming coffin trukk boyz) advance.

i tried using rokkit koptas and the problem with them isvthat their low numbers means their morale sucks, and break easily.

I was looking more at points spent and less at FOC. LOL I it funny when people argue that the s7 is too low when its the same as lootas and its going against rear armor. I do see how lootas are better points spent but still find them to be unreliable at the same time. Lol if I had 75 free points I run 1 lone buzz Koptas for those front av 13 tanks lootas have such a hard time with.

Lootas aren't meant to break open AV13 stuff, the chances of getting a Pen are almost none. If you're using them for that job I'm not suprised they're doing nothing.

Nobz on bikes are far better than koptas - you end up with strength 9 instead of strength 7.

Codex at home at the moment - how much would 3 nobs on bikes with one PK among them cost?

I know lootas are not made to crack av 13 but when there is a tank blasting my wagons and my lootas are the only thing in range I don't have much of a choice.
Nob bikers are not really something you can dash into a list.

I think the question is what will an Ork army fear that requires the answer to whether which is better - the loota or the deffkopta....

Things I dont want to face as a Kan Wall player...

Manticores, Hellhounds, Manticores, Leman Russ Battle Tanks, Land Speeders with Heavy Flamers, Manticores, Transports carrying troops with flamers, Fire Prisms, Defilers, Griffons, Basilisks, Chimeras with hull mounted Heavy Flamers and Manticores.

Most of those are heavy choices - so unless they can be put in Squadrons, I'll see 3 of them. Worse case is there's between 3 to 6 of them AND troops in transports carrying flamers.

Most of them are AV12 on the front and either AV11 or AV10 on the rear.

If you can fit them both in Id take 3 units of 8 Lootas AND 3 deffcoptas. If I had to pick only one, Id go with the Lootas.

At 1850 - you can fit 3 units of 8 lootas, 2 KFF's, 3 units of 30 boyz with a NOB PK, 3 DeffKoptas, a unit of Gretchin and 9 Kans with Grotzookas.
