This is a company I've been thinking of doing for quite a while. This company will mainly be made up of gunnery units like multiple units of hand-gunners, a couple of outriders, and some great cannons and Helblaster volley guns. I do not know if this is legal, but I was thinking that instead of an Empire Master Engineer, I would use a Dwarf Master Engineer. I was only even thinking of this because of this army list on the GW website where Andy Hall uses a High Elf Mage as one of his heroes.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=cat440091a&pIndex=3&aId=14700001&start=4

If this is not legal, I'll just use the model for a Dwarf as an Imperial Engineer. Here is my WIP list and, please, criticize this as much as possible. I need help, as this is my first ever WHFB list:

Special: Greatswords (10 men) - 130 points

Special: Pistoliers (10 men) - 194 points
-Outrider

Special: Outriders (5 men) - 129 points

Special: Mortar (3 men) - 75 points

Rare: Helblaster Volley Gun (3 men) - 110 points

Rare: Helstorm Rocket Battery (3 men) - 115 points
+Hero: Master Engineer

Rare: Steam Tank - 300 points

Again, this is my first list I've ever made for Fantasy, but I believe it is okay. Please comment with any criticisms, tips, additions, etc, for this list.

Thanks,

Praetor

Plus, I'm planning on adding some fluff about the Imperial Engineering College at Altdorf hiring the Dwarven Master Engineer to help train new recruits or something.

the Dwarf would have to "Count as" and use the rules and equipment avaliable to a Master Engineer. the model is fine as long as it is Statwise a human.

Thanks, I was kind of expecting that.

Any other criticisms on the list itself?

The reason the HE mage is in there (Along with all the other HE units) is because this army was used in a doubles tournament. Technically speaking I don't think you can take a single unit (Or character) and put it in your army.

You could do a "count as" like Grey Templar suggested and use the model of a dwarf engie but in terms of the game he would be using the Master Engie's rules.

With 8e rules you could make a combined army of Empire and Dwarfs but both components would have to satisfy the rules of an individual army, Eg. each must have a general, each must have at least 3 units and each must stay within point requiremnets (At least 25% core, up to 25% hero, up to 50% special etc).

Not completely up to date with what an Empire army does in 8e at the moment so i can't comment on much else.

Jake Bake A Cake is right, but I think that most people will be fine with you using a Dwarf and an Elf alongside you army, as long as you don't overdo this (eg. taking a unit of Thunderers or Swordmasters), maybe just stick to a few Heroes.

The infantry units are pretty small and what are you planning for the 5 man detachments of swordsmen? They are too small to break ranks. You can get a +1 CR from the flank, but the points might be betters spent on more ranks for the Halberds.

also, how many men are in each regiment? you give the pts cost, but neglect to say how many that is. Not all of us have the Empire book to backtrack with.

Side note: don't put up the cost for each upgrade, it is against the dakka posting guidlines and is Copyright infringment against GW. Totals for the unit and army are ok.

@RanTheCid: Thanks, I took out the swordsmen (I really had no plan for them) and added in some spearmen and more halberdiers.
@Grey Templar: Phew, nice catch about the upgrade points. Thank you. I added in the amount of guys for each unit up there.

Some other changes also made.

Units need to be bigger. 16 spearmen run the risk of being destroyed to a man before they can strike.

And by bigger, I mean something like the 60 man spear with 2 30 swordsman detachments I played against earlier this week. (Ok - that's a bit much, but it should give you a few ideas)

yeah, the new rules for Hordes are simply too good to pass up and Empire troops are cheap enough to make 2-3 30 man units very easy to fit in.

My brother used 40 Halberdiers and a Warrior Priest 3 times today, and they went smashing from one side of the field to the other. t's definately a good idea to take larger units (with a Warrior Priest)!

dont give the outriders barding cuz they lose their fast cav ability which they need so they can get into a good position to fire their guns. your infantry blocks need to be waaaaay bigger aswell

Ok, just to see what it would be like, I added in a Warrior Priest, more guys, and I took out some upgrades. However, I am now over. I could take out some stuff right off the bat, but does anyone have any ideas of what I should take out?

Thank you. I think Nuln is an engineering place, too, but (according to Wikipedia) there is also a College of Engineers in Altdorf where all the Steam Tanks are stored.

Ah, just reading through the skaven book and there was a nice big section about the attack on nuln, where the skaven got / stole the ideas for alot of thier new creations lol.

Cool, cool.

However, I was wondering: are Dogs of War or mercenaries legal in 8e? I don't actually yet own the book. If so, I could add in a squad of 16 Dwarfs and a squad of 12 Braganza's Beseigers and get an 2499 points.

At a tournament this weekend the Empire player there has been having great success with pidgeon bombs.

He has 3 engineers all with pidgeon boms, and all attached to his 3 mortars.
The pidgeon bombs are killing more R&F than the mortars are.

Actually, the new allies rules make it even easier to use allies.

Both forces must adhere to the Percentage rules, but other then that it is fine.

so you could have 1200 pts of Empire along with 800 pts of ogres. Both forces are built as seperate forces, no more then 25% of lords, Max 25% Heros, Min 25% core..... 3 units in each force....
