Hi Everyone, Just here to announce that I have just released Beta 1.02 of BattleScribe, my take on roster/army editing software. Most 40k armies now have data files at data.battlescribe.net. If your game system or army is not yet represented, tools are included to create your own data files - it should support pretty much any game sytem or army. Also, it's free! Take a look at www.battlescribe.net and let me know what you think

Hmm seems I had broken the [url] tag there - should be fixed now. The site appears fine for me (from the UK...).
If anyone has any problems getting to the site, could you let me know what country you're from and what error message you get (if any). I might have to go and talk to my hosting company :(
Thanks!

Downloaded it, got the roster's I needed on it. So far quite good, for me it's easy to understand, it adds up perfectly and has now made me a lazy person to doing army lists so for me you get two thumbs up of approval and a third cause your british XD.

This could be purely coincidental but my battle.net account was hacked mere minutes after I downloaded the client. Would appreciate it if someone has the means to look into this.

Sorry, but this must be coincidence. I'd like to assure you that BattleScribe does not connect to the internet and does not steal any usernames or passwords for anything. The only thing it may use the internet for is to download and install Java (from the official Sun/Oracle site) during setup - and only if you need it.

Right, I know it doesn't use a connection to my knowledge. Just saying that the download could have been the source of the problem.

So far it looks good. I couldn't add Camo Cloaks to SM Scouts or a Sniper rifle to SM Scout Sergeant. Is that something I can fix or do I have to wait for an update?

You can go ahead and fire up Catalogue Editor to make the changes you need to the Space Marines catalogue if you want - I'll make a note and get it fixed up for the file on the website. Thanks for letting me know

WOW! Excellent work!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Nice, simple interface and easy to use. I love it!
Expect a review on my blog today or tomorrow.
PS - I dl'ed it to a USB key along with the data files so i could scan it with McAfee and Spybot due to the above comments. Both scans came up clean and I've not noticed any weird sub-commands come up while in-use.

ancientsociety, how did you find it compared to Army Builder in terms of ease of use, features, and roster output?

Kolath wrote:ancientsociety, how did you find it compared to Army Builder in terms of ease of use, features, and roster output?
Ease of use is much more in favor of Battlescribe. It took me a grand total of 5 minutes to figure out how to load everything, get a roster started, and add units/options. Army builder took about an hour or so for me to fully master...Controls and graphics interface are much cleaner and more streamlined then AB
Features and roster output may be lacking a bit, especially for those accustomed to AB's inclusion of rules right on the roster. Personally, I think having the rules printed on the roster (literally down to codex-specific universal rules, like Waaagh! for Orks or ATSKNF for SMs) can make the rosters look clumsy and jumbled. I'd rather go to a codex for specific rules, if need be (that's why you buy a codex anyway...!) and keep the roster focused on what it's supposed to - letting you & your opponent know what and how many of something you're taking. As has been stated above (and mentioned in my review), direct printing is lacking here but I don't really think it's a huge flaw.

Like AncientSociety, I found Battlescribe easy to set up and install. It does take a certain familiarity with placing files in folders - but most of us should be able to handle that.
But it looks like BS will need an enhancement to support games (WFB, WAB) which build rosters on a percentage base. The game system editor only allows for unit or point min/max. WFB can get by with the game system setting percentages of the roster, but WAB will need to be able to set percentages by Catalog.

Fantastic! As stated above, it's clean and extremely easy to use. Took less than 5 minutes for me to create my first list.

First off, great program! The only problem I've encountered so far is that it gives me the error that I need to take a SM scout sergeant even when I select Telion.
