You mean like the IF loaned out a captain or something? I think in certain circumstances it could happen, such as a joint strike force between fists and templars in which overall command goes to the senior officer. In the book 'Black Tide' a combined force of Blood Angles and Flesh Tearers was led by the Blood Angles captain due to his seniority.

exactly, I say go for it, I know a few folks who use multiple chapters in one army to represent a combined strike force, I think it gives a nice personality to the army. You could say for instance that both chapter are engaged in a protracted campaign during which the Black Templars commander fell and thus the Imperial Fist commander took over the joint force of marines or something similar.

How big is this army?
A combined strike force is led by the most senior marine, but then were looking at more than 2 squads.

It may work at 2000 pts + or Apoc size. In a 1000pts game, it should be a BT HQ like a EC , chaplain,...

Would it be possible? Yes, of course it theorectically would be. However, I think that the BT might take some offence by their CO being superceeded by someone from another chapter (no expert on Angry mar...Templar's, so don't quote me on that)

Slightly OT here, but @Henrich-YOU made that WE tribute? Dude, it was 'effing amazing, you used one of my favourite songs !

It is possible, like in the cases that the others mentioned. If separate chapters are fighting close together, they generally accept the higher ranked commander (hopefully there is not a tie).

However, a BT force would not hand over command simply because the IF are their original legion and Dorn their shared primarch. They are still individual chapters that have no official say over the other and are highly stubborn to boot. That being said, their shared history would definitely lead to better cooperation.

In all, I'd say go for it. It be a cool army to have the sons of Dorn fighting together (through in some loyal Soul Drinkers ). Just have a reason for them to be lead by one commander or the other.
