So I sent the last month doing Kroots for the first time. Asking some other painter friends the general opinion was there were great. Today I took them into the garage to clear coat them only to have them look like they had been dry brushed with white or as i say "came out looking like frosted flakes!" Any ideas as to why this happened? I have never used this clear matte coat that I got at GW or any clear coat for that matter. Needless to say, today sucked moose balls.

I think the main culprit is usually humidity, I have run into the problem twice so now I run a test model before adding the coat. Really sucks man maybe someone has some advice on getting rid of it, best I did was dip it in the "army painter" and it got rid of the fuzz look but the extra layer had it looking a little off.

I had similar fuzz like that on some models I painted. It turns out it was not only because it was humid, but because Army Painter black spray is awful. Try running over the minis with a toothbrush, but beyond that I don't know.

So what other things could i use as a substitute for clear coating the figs that is more full proof? Any suggestions?

It happened to me once when making these card holders for Memoir 44:

Fortunately, it was a winter themed peice, so it looked great, as a result, although my photo is a bit blurry. I honestly have no idea what causes it to happen. Same spray I always use, same paints, only time it ever happened.

There is a recent Blood Angel Space Hulk Terminators thread that dealt with this problem, but I cannot remember how.

I've been using a Krylon Matt Spray for protectant. It set me back like $5 and has worked great. I live in Louisiana, so we get lots of humidity here, and others would always fog up. I never had this happen on my minis, thankfully, because I ALWAYS do a test spray first on cardboard. After seeing it fog up the first time I tested, I became a firm believer in always testing.

The most common trick I've heard for removing the white fogged look is to buy Testor's Dullcote (the brush-on kind) and going over your model with it. However, I haven't tried this solution.

Spraying a gloss coate onto them will remove the fogginess

Then once dry you can re-spray them with a flat or dull cote if you prefer (though don't do it on a really humid day).

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

This year has been one of the most humid and wet years on record for the United States. Just look at all the posts about frosting of models just within the past couple of months. This is a pretty big problem for many people so I think we need to have a thread stickied with the answers to fix the problem.
