I was looking at the statistics and fluff for these guys, and I couldn't decide which one would win.
Marneus Calgar and Abaddon the Despoiler

They're both the poster boys of their respective armies, and they're both roughly the same cost, so if it came down to a 1-on-1 battle between them, who do you think would win? I'll make it a poll, just for fun.

I'm talking about a combination of fluff and game here. I'm sure they both would have tricks up their sleeves that you wouldn't see in game, so just gamewise is a bad comparison..

I have no idea on either but it might help others to know. If it's gamewise, I'm sure someone could Mathhammer it.

Abaddon unless he rolls a 1 for his Daemonic weapon.

Calagar vs. Failbadon? You do the math. The winner wears blue.

abaddon would win that fight... though lysander usually takes abaddon down.

abaddon does on average 1 wound per turn to lysander, and lysander does on average 1 back. (abaddon has a higher chance to do 2 wounds, lysander has a higher chance to do no wounds... but still, 1 each is a fairly common occurance).

However, because the fight will drag on for a while, abaddon has a good chance of rolling a 1 for a turn, and after the first turn, lysander will swing at the same time as abaddon (thunder hammer)... so i'd give the win to lysander.

I've actually beaten abaddon with lysander on more than one occasion, as well.

In game more often than not abaddon is going to win and fluff wise I think it would go a long way to make Ultramarines more interesting if Abaddon offed Calgar in the middle of a major battle... Would the Ultras be able to continue the fight with out his plot armor? Who will step up and push chaos back? Will the Ultras have to break with Codex Asartes to win? Cliffhanger anyone?

well, seeing as ultramar is on the opposite side of the galaxy (source: http://www.darkmillennia.net/images/GMap.jpg) I don't think we have to worry about abaddon v calgar.

I'd have to say Abaddon, personally. He seems like he'd fight dirtier and manage to use chaos to corrupt calgar's thoughts or something.

But then again, The ultramarines despise traitors with a burning passion, so I'm sure calgar would be unrelenting and vicious against abaddon. 'By the light of guilliman's soul, kill the traitor'

Game wise abbadon is no where near as powerful as he should be. Fluff wise abbadon would win hands down, Rumored cloned son of the "Warmaster", not to mention the most powerful chaos lord alive, abbadon has hundreds or thousands of years of experience over calgar. Im not saying Calgars a push over, but theres no comparison between the two Calgar would have died against the swarmlord had he not had his honour guard to carry him off, whereas despite having massive fleets of warriors to do his bidding abbadon has survived battles that were just plain suicide and somehow come out alive, not to mention he is the chosen of the four gods united which grants him strength that rivals that of horus. But as was mentioned earlier the two would be very unlikely to ever fight.

Sadly im going for abbadon , even if i hate the black legion , its nothing comparded to my lothing of the Ultra smurfs.
