If I use a Valkyrie as a Flyer in Apocalypse can I still use Grav Chute Insertion while it's flying?

The way I read Grav Chute Insertion, you have to be going flat out, but if you're flying that technically is not the same thing right?

(and please don't bring up that the codex Valkyrie is not a flyer, because there's an Imperial Armour Valkyrie with all the same rules, and can act as a flyer too).

thank you.

If you use your Valkyrie as a Flyer, you're not using the rules in the Imperial Guard codex for that model. If the Imperial Armour version of the Valkerie doesn't have Grav Chute Insertion, then you don't get to use the rule.

Pick one, or the other.

There's a WD with a Formation that uses Codex: IG Valks and makes them flyers. In that very same article, there's also a box that states that in Apocalypse, Codex: IG Valkyries can be Flyers for no additional points.

There is no indication, however, on how Grav Shute Insertion works with Flyers.

If that's the case, then it's perfectly clear. You can use Grav Chute Insertion whenever that flyer model is going flat out, as opposed to moving as a flyer.

If your formation let's the flyers still move as fast skimmers (and thus actually go flat out), then you're all set. If you can't go flat out any more, then the you're going to have an impossible time using the rule.

IA 1 update lists the Valkyrie.

It is a Flyer with Hover mode in Apocalypse games.

It has the gravchute insertion rule.

The rule is worded the same as in Codex: IG.

Flyers do not have the Option to move flat out(they always, while in Flyer mode have the benefits, but not actually calling it that, nor giving them the option).

Therefore, in an apocalypse game the only way to have a Valkyrie utilize it's Gravchute Insertion rule is to have it enter "Hover mode" and then move it flat out.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

So would it be a better idea instead of trying to make this rule work for Apocalypse that I just create a new Data Sheet for Valkyrie with a reworked Grav Chute Insertion that works while flying?

While I'm all for 'All-Out' and 'No Holds Barred' doesn't making a rule that allows you to do everything from list A and everything from list B seem a little, well, greedy? Doubling so when there is a way to achieve you goal at the moment.

It works perfectly well as it is. Being a flyer grants you a lot of additional protection.

Allowing valks to disembark troops without loosing that additional protection even for a turn is a huge boost.

There are no other flyers that can do this.

I have to be honest, I have never been in a game, or seen a game played that anyone EVER used grav chute insertion. which is amazing considering that in almost every IG game, there is at least one Valkyrie/Vendetta majority of the time. The reason why you don't see Grav Chute Insertion used is it's not a game changing ability, and is kind of a liability if you ask me. I just think that the "fluff" behind the ability justifies doing it at high altitudes as well as low altitudes (just my two cents).

Besides it's Apocalypse. As many times as I've allowed opponents' homegrown datasheets that have killer abilities at a non-exisitant point cost, it should be ok to alter a standard model to use an ability that really doesn't get any playtime.

If it makes the opponent feel better I can add 5 to 10 points to the models point cost.
