Didn't see this posted but thought it was rather interesting. It looks like Tim Burton is working on a MonPoc movie and Matt Wilson will be co-producing. Not a lot of information right now as it's early, but there's an interview at the link below. Could be pretty interesting...

Hah, that's cool. Perhaps this and the 40k movie will usher in a new age of wargame related movies.

Perhaps this one because Burton generally doesn't do direct to DVD movies.

The 40K movie, however, IS direct to DVD, so won't reach a wide audience.

Also, we saw how well Mutant Chronicles did to help...

Obviously, Depp will pilot one of the G.U.A.R.D. mechs.

They're using monsters designed by Burton himself.

No G.U.A.R.D. for you.

Well that's kinda pointless then, the monsters are the most recognizable thing about Monpoc and they aren't even going to be in the movie?

They'll probably work it the other way around so that the latest expansion will feature
those models designed by Tim Burton. That way, both longtime players and newly
introduced players will have stuff to look forward to in whatever set they are featured.

No way would they use the stuff in Monpoc. It's very derivitive of too much stuff. Burton wouldn't want to use it, and is better off coming up with new stuff.

Malf is right, they'll just do the new stuff as the next Monpoc expansion. Hell, I might sell more than 2 boosters of that one! Dead, Dead game in my stores.

They talked a little about this during G4's coverage of the ComiCon convention. All they said was a movie was in the works.

I'd rather have a Robot Chicken movie.

No, i need to watch it in a movie theater! With surround sound, even! I'm too cheap to install my own.

Cater to my needs, cartoon network!

Back on topic, I've never been a fan of Monsterpocalypse. I've watched a few episodes, but it was kind of lame.

Huh? Monsterpocalypse is a CMG from Privateer Press. There are currently no episodes to have been watched.

I have no idea why they have Tim Burton doing a movie like this. I would imagine the best way to go about doing a monster fighting monsters movie would be an action oriented blockbluster. Tim Burton usually goes for fairy tale esque type films, which is what he excels at. It surprises me that he chose such a low visibility franchise, which is not even PP's premier game. Well it will be interesting to see what aesthetic he chooses.

Mutant chronicles was a pretty cool movie for the first 30 minutes.. then it got a bit silly. I Dont see a reason to reach a wide audience if studios can produce decent movies with direct to dvd. After all a good movie requires non-slowed director preferably with a low ego and then a great script and plot (High ego directors can easily kill a good script)

None of that requires a huge budget

Tim Burton is developing the look for the monsters with Ken Ralston, four time Academy Award winner who has been involved with the visual effects on films such as Forrest Gump, Death Becomes Her, Back to the Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cocoon, Dragonslayer, Star Wars trilogy

If this movie has anything to do with Cocoon I'm sold

Same at the FLGS I frequent, which is a shame because it's such a super fun game. The biggest turn off seems to be that it's collectible.

That is my only turnoff on the game really. I think it is a lot of fun, easy to learn and quick moving. I played quite a bit of it when it first made the rounds where I lived at the time. I play with my kids now but once I got enough to do two sides I stopped buying stuff (as it was most came from e-bay so I could get what I wanted.). Random miniatures and trying tradesies to get stuff. No thanks. Not interested.

I think I will buy the Voltron game though, its starter appears to be self contained.

Also, able to be used with the main game.

I'm lucky to have a place nearby that sells singles(and am in good enough with the staff that if they're sold out, they'll occasionally sell me what's in a pack from the singles for the pack price instead of singles price).

I gotta have some salt with this, since I am still waiting for the Rifts movie by Jerry Bruckheimer. Or the Robotech movie with Toby McGuire.

Why? It has been announced as in development on the PP site. Whether it gets made or not is up in the air, as much as with any movie that gets announced.

The two you mention I have never heard of being done before.
