Hi guys, can anyone tell me how Games workshop make their large explosions? or at least what they're made of? I keep seeing them on the board especially in the apoc battle reps and i'd love to make some that look that good instead of using dodgy painted cotton and wool!

i'll try to post one if I can find one but there is some in WD 334 the apocolypse edition :-)

I think they are made from woodland scenics clump foliage painted to the proper colors and hot melt glued to a frame underneath. I have all the materials for this project but I'm tring to finish some of my other projects first.

They take floral wire, bend it to the basic shape of the explosion(it should look somewhat like a crystalline growth) and then as dwerger said:

They use Woodland Scenics clump foilage sprayed progressively in the colors for explosions attached to the wire armature.

If it is the big tall explosions. I spoke to a guy at a forge world open day a couepl of years ago.

They use the pine tree looking scenery trees and spray them black/red and then bend them into the correct "spray" shape
