I've just taken a look over on Wayland Games and Maelstrom, just to ponder what deals are available for whole armies or bulk buys.

I have previously seen army deals on Wayland certainly, for Warriors of Chaos and Space Marines. But now? Nothing.

Where are the army deals?
With WHFB 8th just released and many of us who had left the game considering trying it out, wouldn't now be a good time to offer these things?

Maybe a big time hassle to organize those army bundles?
Would be perfect timming for people jumping on the 8th again.

Maybe smaller discount stores could pick up were the big ones seem to have dropped.

Building army deals that complimented the boxed set would certainly seem savvy?

Skaven and high elf armies will be popular.

totalwargamer.co.uk has some army deals and they offer about 20% off from GW prices.
I know they have them for 40K but I am not sure about fantasy

The 8th is perfect for huge bundles, never WFB been about so many models as it is now... and most of the stuff is plastic.

I get the feeling when online stores get to big they start to stress with timmings and stocks and rather give you a overall discount than spend valuable time making those army bundles.
Imagine a bundle that could not be sold because one of the regiment boxes in it, was out of stock...

Yeah but the WoC and SM army deals were on Wayland just a little while ago?

Has the latest price increase by GW made these untenable?

This is a good question - and really, offering bundles would be a good idea right about... now!

I don't think the price hikes would stop the discounters from doing their thing.

Sure,it might be marginally more annoying for them to assemble a bundle, but come on, not really!

It's looking like that's what the majority of the upcoming releases are going to be for Fantasy in October through December. We've got the "reinforcement" boxes coming for High Elves and Skaven, at the very least, which will be consisting of one of each of the new model kits coming out then(no idea on the actual numbers) most likely.

Plus, GW at the very minimum usually reissues the "megaforces" for 40k and the all plastic boxed army kits around that time.

Our FLGS just started a sale for fantasy 10% standard off GW + additional 8% if you get 1 lord or hero, 2 core, 1 special, 1 rare at one purchase.

Sounds like he'll run it through the end of the year. Or until his holiday sales kick in.

Sadly he doesn't ship.

So no commentary from any of the discount stores?

This question needs answering.

Army deals lead to discounts.
Discounts lead to less short-term profits.
Less short-term profits leads to GW bean-counter aneurysms.

And as for Wayland and Maelstrom, I think they're busy enough without having to organise bundles.

I not 100% sure, so don't quote me on this. It's possible, however remote the odds, that a person from wayland games or Maelstrom or any other games seller in the UK might not have seen a post in the Dakka Discussions area of the Dakkadakka forums.

Since there is a small chance, say 1 in 200 million that they didn't see it, you might just try contacting one of them directly.

They both have people who post here regularly, so I doubt they "didn't see the post".

Here is another person who does some decent selling in terms of army deals:

http://myworld.ebay.com/onceandfutureking000/

His ebay sales generally package both good and bad army units, but overall you save a considerable amount of money given what he wraps up for you with NIB items.

You know, if you made the same point without the hyperbole, people might actually be inclined to pay attention to it rather than just responding to the attitude and ignoring the content.

Less flamebait, more thought when posting, please.

Dunno where the army deals are but, since most online sellers discount against GW RRP the pain of sticking various boxsets and blisters on an order online will be outweighed by normal savings anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the loss too much.

I've not really been a fan of army deals, as they generally tend to include a lot of pieces I would not consider using in my army anyway. Those "unused" models then eat up whatever discount I was getting by purchasing the set to begin with.

I do miss some of the smaller deals released by GW around the time apocalypse came out, as they were usually themed well. I made quite a few purchases at that time.

It would be interesting to hear from some of the discount stores and see why the deals have stopped though.

According to Maelstorm games:

Some of our older customers may remember army deals, which we know were very popular. However, we found over time that they were somewhat limited in their scope. It became almost impossible to allow customers to construct a deal to suit every army and, crucially, no hobby products were included whatsoever. Thus, we replaced army deals with a tiered discount scheme based on how much you spend. This is automatic and kicks in once your basket contains a certain amount (in Pounds Sterling).

Don't know about Wayland though.
