I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the new standard size for a game of warhammer. Looking at my 2000 point lists, with the bigger units, they seem a bit bare.
My latest Dwarf list for example fits in two combat blocks (one is uber elite), 2 heroes, a lord, and a reasonable amount of shooting into 2000. 2 blocks just doesn't seem like a lot to me, but then, I used to run 15-16 in my blocks, now I'm up to 30. So I think I might start playing 2500. Are people thinking of jumping all the way to 3000? Seems like it'd make the warmachine spam a bit worse, to me. 2800 might be better, right?

This is something I am also curous about. Everyone at my store now says games are faster and you get much more by purchasing larger units. They used to play (from what I have heard) 2250, but is it reasonable to go up to 2500?

Once one and one's opposition can play a 'quick' game then adding points on doesn't start to bog gameplay down again until the FOC expands in such a way that unit the players are unfamilar with come into play.
Adding 250 points to a 1750 point force tends to change the configuration considerably, but going from as low as 2000 to 2500 won't really 'change the nature' of the battle. For a long time my group has been playing 2500+ because it 'takes as long you know' to go through the motions of 2000pts.

In ur gaem, killin ur doodz.

I think people are actually getting as close to 3k without actually hitting 3k. 2800 breaks down into 25% really easily, allows for big battles, mitigates war-machines, and maximizes what seems to be the idea of the book.

I'm finding 2400 point games (nice, round 25% break downs) to be quite nice.

I think part of the reason why the games feel "quicker" in 8th is the mere fact that BECAUSE you are taking larger but fewer units, there're less units to move around and to take actions with.

Dont play 3000! Do 2999 or atleast dont use those inane grand army rules. All you end up with are armies with 6 cannons, 6 mortars, 4 hellblasters for empire.. even more annoying for dwarves!

Anything with war machines benefits astronomically more

I agree with the sentiments above- most people I know seem to be playing high point games, but not actually at 3K, due to the amount of repeat units you can take at that level. I did watch a 3K game yesterday, though, and it seems like among friends it won't be too big a deal- it's only when people push for maximum warmachines/etc that it'll be a problem.

I personally have been enjoying smaller games- with the rules already streamlining things, I can actually finish a game in 2 hours!!!

2500 is the average at my GW, bouncing up or down 500pts dependent on if someone wants to play a big game or lacks the models for such a scale. Blocks of core seem to be the big problem at my GW: Besides me, one of the Skaven players, and pretty much every Chaos player, most people have too few points in Core to go above 2500pts legally. Something about Dark Elves and High Elves not having 500pts of core on hand, for some reason.

I'm starting, so I'm making 1000 points now, but soon I'll be doing 1500 points, and then probably up and beyond. I'll have plenty of core, since Warriors of Chaos are so much win.

I have 2000 points of , called the Crimson Leaves.

I dont think games will be going to 3000 points that quickly. My store is still running 2250 but I wouldn't be surprised if that number changes for the tournament in September, and then continues to stay at that points level whatever it may be.

I think the new value will be just shy of 3k points, to avoid the "Grand Spamming" of 6 Great Cannons, 6 Mortars, 4 Hellblasters and 4 Hellstorms, while still allowing a varied army.

2k points will also hold out, I think. This is because you can still build a solid army at this level, but it will be focused on 1 strategy, and rather inflexable.
