Guardsman with Flashlight

I bought a GW sculpting tool and some GS today and this is what came out of a couple hours or so of working
my go at sculpting a hood. please ignore the rest of the model, it was a test to see how well i could pull off that conversion. (failed miserably in my opinion)
a loin cloth for my grey knight
and some facial hair that i did while i was waiting
I'd love for you pros to point out anything you can see that im doing wrong, or that i need to work on.
Also I'd like to ask you if you can point me in a direction ofa tutorial on coats/ hoods (the hoods one i seem to have lost the link for)
Thank you for your help!

Not sure of any links for the hood as of yet, but I'm liking the loin cloth on the grey knight.
Perhaps with the hood though, sculpt the initial form, let it dry a bit, and then put the folds and do your smoothing out with a soft tool afterwards. I find the big temptation with GS is to try and tackle everything at the same time, when doing so just means none of them are done right!
I'll grab a link for you in a sec. Automatically Appended Next Post: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242387.page

Guardsman with Flashlight

In an effort to motivate myself to paint a few more of my guard and to get some more projects done I'm gona start posting all my stuff here.
I decided to throw some paint on my grot head last night and I still dont know if i like how it came out. (dont worry about the shineyness I'll give it a shot of dull coat)
I've also decided to make that guy i sculpted the hood on into a servitor with a plasma cannon.
The plan for him is sculpt a robe on him and add alot more cables and maybe a targeting apparatus.
My guard regimental banner that i have actually finished once but I ruind the eyes and this is where the head is in painting.
My Imperial guard I would say sargeant, but im not really doing any type of list.(he will get a dull coat)
Thats all for now, Thanks for all the comments and critisisms

Guardsman with Flashlight

Well it has been awhile.but i have a small bit of progress in my various little projects.
first off I have what I hope to be the start of a sizeable krieg force, in the form of a engineer that I painted to test out the scheme I wanted to use. I am going to buy almost exclusivly DKOK greniders, so I'm thinking of using them as inquisitorial troops, or as mechanicus somthing or other. Still up in the air about that.
should I leave the gass mask black? Or should I try painting it white?
Heres my new space marine project I am going to cut up his other arm I think and make it the same length as the other and I'm also going to use terminator legs and have this one be true scale.
comments and critisisms welcome

Your stuff looks great, especially for first attempts. You seem to have a good hand for it, practice could make you a real pro!

i really like the grot head. and for your guy with the hood, why not make it to look as long hair? and then call it a space wolf?
your truescale attempt looks cool, cant really say if the arms are not eaven, the shot isn“t helping enough for such a statement.
good stuff, best wishes for your ongoing work mate, vik

Great work! My 2 best tips on gs work: 1 - Vaseline is excellent, especially in those girly mini tins; 2 - go to an art store and invest in a couple of paintshapers. Both will help with smoothing and cleanliness of lines. Keep up the blog - enjoying so far!

your GS skills are improving in a hurry.
The one thing I'd note for the hood is that you're oversculpting it. When you did the loin cloth, did you spend a lot of time with a knife carefully shaping it, or did you basically make a rectangle of GS and tack it on there with minimal further work?
Free-standing clothing looks better the LESS you work with it. Feel free to let the GS cure for like an hour before working with it if that helps.
