First things first, I stole this idea from Little lord Fauntleroy, and have no regrets. Given the chance, I'd do it again dammit!
They'll be ranked because of preference, with reasons why.
Starting off....


BAD BOYS BAD BOYS, WHATCHA GONNA DO?
The Penal Legions. I don't hate them, but I don't like them. I simply feel nothing in regards to the Penal Legions.
Their a good idea that allows players to make interesting armies, such as mutants seeking redemption, Savlar Chem Dogs etc. etc.
But the only backround you cna get for them is the Last Chancer's and a few short stories about the Chem dogs. Other then that, your gak outta luck.
Maybe it's just me, but the Penal Legions simply feel like a lot of wasted potential.
Also, Schaeffer reminds me off The Comedian. Is that odd?

Dammit GES, now we're equal. I have to do ANOTHER ranking thread now to balance it out.

And I'm going to guess...Kreig in the top 5.

Maybe it's the fact I hate Communists. Maybe it's the fact they haven't had a model update since 3rd ed.
It's more then likely the reason their called Valhallan's and look absolutely nothing like Vikings. Shame on you GW.

Also, the only backround we get for them is Ciaphas Cain. I call bullcrap!

Ya Krieg are ftw I should know they won alot of games for me.

Despite their "vanilla" appearance, I hope Cadian shock troops or kasrkin come high on the list.

My own top three:

1.) Death Korps of Krieg. Fallout/SSpace Nazis! From sspace! Have the best models in the game, are as fearless/fanatical as Space Marines, and show proper appreciation for artillery.

2.) Cadians. Starship Troopers! Karskin are really sweet models, too.

3.) Steel Legion. Afrika Korps Panzergrenadiers, how awesome is that? They are probably more interesting than DKoK from a fluff standpoint since they are "real" people from a "proper" Hive World rather than a bunch of indoctrinated/brainwashed clones, but their models are really showing their age.

1) Caidan Shock Troops:^much of the same as above if only the karskin were both plastic and cheaper

2)Armageddon Steel Legion: nuff said

3)Tallarn Desert Raiders: ?

I COULDN'T THINK OF A PHRASE TO MAKE FUN OF THEIR NAME, SO I'M GONNA MAKE A REFFERENCE TO CLINT EASTWOOD.

Allow me to paint a picture for you of how the Atillan Rough Riders we're imagined. Or at least how I picture it.

Bob: Hey, I have a great idea for a unit for Imperial Guard to use!
John: What?
Bob: Cavalry!
John: But cavalry stopped being effective in WW1, why would we give players the choice to use them in game?
Bob: They have big sticks that explode when they hit stuff!
John: Go on...
Bob: And they're modelled after the huns...
John: Continue...
Bob: And they're called the Atillan Rough Riders!
John: BRILLIANT!!


And Mogul Kamir? Seriously, that's the coolest character name they could think of? Why not just call him Atilla and come full circle with the Hunic inspiration.

They serve their purpose, although the conversions to bikers always made more sense to me.

I'm more confused as to why someone would create an upgrade special character that is actually a DOWNGRADE for his squad. Mogul Kamir alone should have been enough to drop these suckers to the bottom of the barrel.

the image of cadians on horses does not look right but on bike it makes more sense

Seriously, that dude looks like a Mountie to me.

Maybe it's the lack of new models. Maybe it's the lack of even a special character.
Could be the fact that even if GW updates them, they'll still look stupid.
I mean honestly, who the hell goes to war looking like that? Their uniforms look like something you'd find out of Elton John, sorry,
SIR Elton John's closet.
Also, the fact that th most mention they got in the codex was barely a paragrapgh. ANd in the end of it, everybody died.

In case you didn't get it, I'm ranking them according to MY PREFERENCES. And if there's one you want done cause you like them, you should be asking them to be done last.
Cause the higher up they are, the lower my opionion of them.

Do the Tanith! I mean how can you NOT like them? They lost their homeworld to the fires of Chaos, they number around 3,000+ and they kick ass.

Personally I prefer Cadian style armor, though I dislike Cadia itself. Either Cadian style or DKoK style.

Sadly this time around I can't blame my reasons for not liking them on lack of new models, as Forge World presents us with
some, albeit expensive ones.


I like the look of them too, to be quite honest. I think everybodies armies would be alot more colorful if
they had units of Arabs, I mean Tallarns in them. Hell even the backround is pretty solid.


I do think Al'Rahem would be cooler if he was named Ali Muhammed tho.

I actually like the Communists, I mean Russian based Vostroyans. I like the artowrk for them,

which really showcases the feel of the army, with ornate weapons and armor.

I dislike them however, for their fething metal models.


GW has done a pretty solid job on them in all other respects. The backround is pretty solid, the artwork is beautiful and plenty
and the models (despite being metal) are very nice looking.
