just thought i'd throw together a list of weapons, bits and models which fit a pre-heresy themed model or army.

included will be GW, FW and non GW stuff, hope this hopes at least one or two people

enjoy

GW: the problem as with bits for most GW stuff nowadays is how hard it is to get certain bits, but you can always use bits website like bitsandkits.co.uk

first of the obvious ones

GW

from the collectors range we have

the obvious and ubiquitous Corvus (beaky, wamble, pointy,), from a number of sources, it also appears in varieties in the Dark angel, space wolf and Black templar boxes/ http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/bmz_cache/0/0...age.150x149.JPG

the latest marine plastic kits ahve more variety which can help so much, such as the blood angels, i will lsit the various heads and exampoles of the kneess and torsos which can help as well, the maximus head for example is a nice edition if nto rather difficult to get hold of

the followwing are all from the Deathcompany box

Crusader style head

Maxmimus style head

greave type legs often par of the corvus Armour

more greave legs

chunkier looking chest plate resembling the Mk3 armour (more on that later)

these are all from the Black Templar sprue
this sprue has lots of nice chunky chestplates and some excellent heads and crusadey type stuff.

crusader helmet (1of2)

crusader helmet (2of2)

Maximus style helmet, very good piece if you can get hold of it, especially as it has no chapter markings making it a universal piece

collard chest piece

collard and tabard (3 types of these on the sprue)

corvus style chest piece

from the Dark angels vets and ravenwing sprues

Corvus Beaky with Dark Angel insignia

Crusader helmet with Dark angel insignia

Dark Angel Veteran MK6 Shoulder Pad

Ravenwing Adeptus mechanicus Torso

Generic space marine bits (various sources, assault, tactical, command and devestator squad)

CHAMPION CRUSADER SHOULDER (command squad)

MK6 CORVUS STUDDED SHOULDER (various inc tactical and assault squads iirc)

HERESY TORSO

PLAIN TORSO

ASSAULT TORSO

this master of the chapter model is very effecting especially with some weapon swaps.
not the best picture ever, but comes with rnate corvus armour (the right pad is completely smooth save for battle honours)

space wolves
smoothe type pads the space wolves use.

these type of chainswords although more barbaric than most represented by space marines can add an archaic touch to your marines

Chaos Marines
many of these will need more work than say a normal marine bit but can offer very interesting possibilities.

khorne bezerkers are one of my favs for this their bulky armour reminds me a lot of the mk3 armour (see fw section for some new examples of these the arms from the zerkers would look very good on these and would allow some very very nice assault conversion).

here is a quick selection of khorne bezerker bits that work really well.

Other chaos marine parts can work well because of their gauntlet type and some other heads etc...

chaos bolt pistol

again weapons can work very well.

these 2 heads work really well as heresy style ones
this one is from the chaos marine squad box

this one is from the vehicle accessory sprue.

space marine venerable Dreadnought
the helmets from this model are brilliant.

Forgeworld stuff

Warhammer fantasy bits
also the legs of chaos warriors like the ones below, are perfect for archaic style space marine pwoer armour

some early wip examples of my own army

Forgeworld stuff

any of the brilliant space marine venerable dreads are perfect! (sure most people have seen these but hey always worth reminding people they are there)

specific marine bits

Although Raven Guard bits are fairly heavily moulded, but are very very good pieces, its a real shame the moulding is so heavy i'd personally love the back packs.

now we get onto the really exciting new FW stuff....mmm tasty

MK3 armour, this stuff is really really cool, and works with pretty much with all pieces.

quick show with some weapons, it works really well.....

here is the items that are on the sprue....

new Pre-Heresy bolters again very very cool

Pre-Heresy special weapons

Non GW stuff

Chapter House
http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/
We'll start with the big player in this Chapter house studios, these guys make some serious epic bits and are of high quality, most of the items are in metal but some are in resin. I will say this now that these are well worth the pick up.

they have a whole section devoted to heresy era bits
http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.browse&category_id=26

here are some of my favourite examples.
brilliant mkI power armour shoulders

http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=48&category_id=26

Banded style which fit right in

Here is one of their pre-heresy jump packs on one of my own blood claws
they can be found in the heresy section

This great lil rhino conversion pack is in the vehicles accessory section and looks sweet, not seen any painted or complete pics yet but if anyone has any feel free to post

max mini eu
http://www.maxmini.eu/store/

These guys make a smeg tonne of stuff, however they do have a couple of pieces which stand out and can be very useful for those people looking to make some pre-heresy styled models.

first off are the steam knight helmets, great for mk1 type armour

great closed type helms, mostly only going to be of use to some ultramarine players and emperors children

another slightly different type of jump pack which would quite well as pre-heresy if you want some variety.

set of large shoulder pads, which fit perfectly on terminators which looks really good as pre-heresy era shoulders

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Great list you made there, certainly given me some inspiration for my Space Marines

Great post. Pretty much matches my list as well. I might also mention, that the Rhino conversion kit from Chapter house still requires a little work on the exhausts of the current Rhino.

Any idea on good weapon parts or even information on what weapons were used pre-heresy?

Scibors monstrous do adeptus custodes helmets.

The chapter house rhino kit requires alot of sanding to get the texture smooth, But is well worth it.

weapons parts are fairly hard.... new FW stuff obviously. keep an eye out for the new character parts they are planning on releasing (nice preheresy style plasma pistol and power fist)

(sorry for late reply/necromancy)

pretty much all weapons fit.
ranged weapons you can grab old lascannons from ebay which always work nice.

the chaos marine plasmagun works really well,
2nd ed bolters if youc an get hold of them are a bit small but can work well with some work (i still have a tonnne left over)

what i wrote abou the chainswors and chains axes.... no other real suggestions yet..... oh wait black templar power axe semes to look a lil archaic and i reckon would work with some customisation

This kicks ass. Wow cant get enough of the ancient past/nearer future stuff. this is of special interest to me as I'm building a massive rogue trader imperial army which is chocka block with beaky corvus marines (see link at bottom of post(shameless plug)) and I just love these pre heresy armour variants. Thank you oh so much for posting the links - I'm sure I had heard of chapter house but forgotten they existed. Are you going to do a blog on your pre heresy army? What chapter you doing? I've always kinda wanted to do a pre-chaos sons of horus/lunar wolves cos I love the idea that they are noble upstanding heros of humanity but soo they will become deviant traitors and they don't even know it yet

i am doing an imdiately post-heresy space wolf second founding army. so mixture of armour etc.. also means i get to use lots of really brutal look chaos gear which = easy pre heresy style armour etc. thinking of grabing a 5 man box of chaos marines to cut up and see if i can cut enough off the legs etc but i doubt it.

I haven't set up a blog cause i can't paint for squat and i work far to slowly. i can post up what i have when i have time but all pics will be taken with my phone,

oh I know what you mean - I have been painting way more than I used too before I gotta blog. Its a sure fire recipe for reducing spare time. Pressure... But they reduced my hours so I have a lot of free time.

I'm including older marks of armor in my Crimson Fists army alongside the newer marks of armor to show how the chapter has had to scavange for resources before new supplies began arriving. The new Forgeworld marines have been very appealing lately, especially to mix and match the shoulders, legs, and heads of the Mk 3-6's for that patchwork look.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

thanks for collating all this stuff. are you only putting together the stuff that is currently in print and available? if not, then i'd add the original rogue trader turbofan jump pack for a reference also.

Here's a few non-GW bits from the RT era that might be of interest

The heads and backpacks and weapons from the Alternative Armies "Ion Age" line are available separately. The entire line of figs has a very RT/Pre-Heresy look, but the bits will probably be of most interest to folks here. The "retained Knights" and "Muster" factions have bits available, with the backpacks and helmets being some of the best bits.

Retained knight backpack

Helmet

Muster helmet and MOTH rifle

Backpack

Also, most of weapons seen on the Muster and Retained figures in this section are available:

Bits can be bought in a pack, or individually here:

I have a couple of suggestions to add in:

Space Wolves have a very ornate MKVII head that is passable as an older MK & the original SW accessory frame from GW direct order has a MKVI torso, albeit w/ wolf tooth necklace, but still. I'm having trouble finding pics of either big enough to put up.

Also, most of the chaos terminator bits are useful for pre-heresy as well since they're more ornate but less advanced-looking such as the combi-melta:

Lord's combi-melta:

And the Lord's lightning claws:

Lord torso front:

and the champions torso from the CSM upgrade frame:
