Ok, so Howling Banshees are pretty good, but they suffer from the lack of being able to assault the same turn as they get close to their target. So I've come up with a few ideas for an assauly variant wave serpent for them.

Assault Wave Serpent 100 points/ model

FA- 12
SA- 12
RA- 10
BS- 3

type: skimmer, tank, fast, assault

wargear: twin-linked shuriken catapults and the same selections as a normal wave serpent, but not twin linked.

options: twin linked shuriken catapults may be upgraded to a single shuriken cannon at the same cost as normal.

May take all the normal upgrades as well.

transport: same amount as a normal wave serpent.

So, feedback anyone?

Wave Serpents are already pretty powerful. The whole plan of Howling Banshees disembarking and assaulting relies on the fact that you have to risk one turn where they cannot assault when they disembark. By using this, you have the potential to get a few incredibly powerful assault squads into assault without taking any harm at all. If you really want some sort of assault vehicle, I suggest you use rules similar to the Valkyrie's Grav Chute Insertion rule.

I'm not familiar with it.

I think simply adding an access point to the front of the model would make them much more effective. Perhaps make a Wave Serpent variant without the bottom guns and an access ramp.

I actually think thats a really great idea...

Something along the lines of

"may replace tl shurican catapult with an access ramp for 20 points"

Or something like that. A front access ramp on the wave serpent would mean being able to deploy without showing rear armor. It definitely needs to be an increase in points over that worthless 12 inch s4 gun.

Lol, it's funny you say that because I lost a prism cannon on my fire prism, and went hunting with it, looking to ram or tank shock something. Ended up killing two landspeeders by immobilizng them, lol.

If you want to give it frontal access point and the same Assault Vehicle rule as a land raider, I'd bump the cost up by +40pts. It's incredibly power, giving banshees (and any unit) a potential 27" charge range.

Of course if you were to remove the Energy Field rule to compensate for the Assault Vehicle rule, then I'd say only +15pts.

Though I much rather prefer Valkyrie's idea of the Grav Chute Insertion rule at +15pts.

Wave serpent with assailt ramps? however much i'd like that i think its a bit too over powered.
Better idea would be 'Storm Vyper'

Same stats as a vyper with the loss of the turret and a transport capacity of 6

WLD: 221 / 6 / 5

What is the grav chute rule?

Losing the main turret for an assault ramp maybe?

I didn't say assault ramp. Just a front access ramp- Like a Rhino has.

meaning you can put your banshees, avengers, what have you in front of your serpents. Gives those banshee serpents a much bigger threat range, suddenly you have to be out of fleet + assault range from the whole tank, instead of just the rear. And Avengers and Storm Guardians can shoot with less risk of showing off the tank's rear armor. All of these are good things.
