Okay okay before I get flamed out of here by warhammer ork fanboy's this is just for me and a simple conversion project i have been dreaming up for a while now.
I know it probably wouldnt fit into the WH40k lore in some area's but I think this will be a fun idea and I wanted to see what others thought about it.
My idea is simple, a mixture of 'hummies' and orks in a 40k army. I would be using the ork codex for the units and rules and such to make it simple. I have always liked the look of the orks, just something about the "loot something and stick spikes all over it and patch it up with metal" scrapyard feel made the orcs just appeal to me. Now I will always have a place for the green guys, but I was thinking what about just a rag tag band of human mercenaries mixed in with the army as well? I could mix and match through all the human factions of 40k and just piece them together, with orc scrapyard weapondry, and maybe a few orcs here and there and a warboss leading the way. For the human look, try to picture possibly, Mad Max movies, or The Smokers off the Movie, "Water World". That kind of feel to it. Personally i think it would look kind of cool just a mix of rebel scrapyard mercenary humans and the ork boyz we all love. Only thing is I am a bit new on conversions, and would there be any guildlines i should follow to not step over a line where i cannot use this army to actually play with?
Well there is my idea, I will keep posting here with my progress, tell me what you guys think.

i like the idea of a blood axe tribe working together with humans on a back water planet that was never re integrated with the imperium. They could share orky tech or be enlsaved by them... Try looking at Maxmini for some nice orky parts

Look at the old rogue trader and 2nd edition fluff, it was quite common for orks to have human mercs and humans to have blood axe clan mercs, although each tended to have thier own agenda and were never so much 'working together' as 'not fighting the orks 'cos the other guys are more a threat'.
Also the old rogue trader list had entries for ogryns that had joined the orks for whatever reason, so maybe convert up some ogryns for inclusion in your nobz squads?

Thanks for the advice.
I'll definately take a look at the maxmini stuff for my conversions
And I have looked at the Rogue Trader stuff, it is quite interesting.
So far I have a Rogue Trader Captain as one HQ choice, and of course my ork warboss in mind
Ogryns were a must for my conversion so I have those all up and ready now. Plus some merc humans as troops, all orked out i guess lol.
i should still be able to use the orc codex to play with my conversion army rite?

You might want to look up GorkaMorka as well...but don't ask at a GW shop as they will take you out back and shoot you...
...keep your eye on Ebay for Pygmies...as Diggas (the humies)...are oft mistaken for them...but don't sell well as they aren't GW Pygmies...but they are very Orky humans
...don't mention Pygmies either to anyone at GW...they WERE a bad thing...

I reckon combining orks and IG is awesome!!! Making an either ork helper to human army sounds nice. Orks pwnage+ IG weapons would rock. I got a name... Imperial Dakkas!!!
What do you think?

GorkaMorka's planet was eaten by necrons.
It was a tombworld that had been colonised by humans.
A killkroozer crashed on it (and exploded) laying waste to the area and causing mutations.
One thing led to another and the orks and humies (and muties) and the diggas woke the necrons up and got eaten.
It was a fun game.

Yeah right now I am mainly converting all the human models I have (mostly IG) cause I can play them both as an Ork army and as an IG army which works out great.
I just like the whole feel of that look, and how crazy the smokers are in Water World
I will hopefully have some pictures up soon of my progress.
