Hey,
I'm getting psyched for GamesDay 2010 in Baltimore! I'm interested in the "Space Hulk Big Game" on the activities list, but can't find any details about it. Can anyone who's been in the past fill me in the format for this? Also, I wasn't planning on bringing any minis and figured I'd just use those provided at clubs' game tables, but would it make any sense for me to bring my SH board and minis?
Looking forward to it. Gimme a shout if you'll be there. -Jamie

The big game is most likely a game of SH where they use large cardboard cutouts of the models.

sounds interesting but if it is going to be like the space marine big game in the uk it probably will be fun

a cow and a calf are cut in half, and put into some cases, to call it art, however smart, casts doubt on arts hole basis.

It could be a bunch of tile sets so that it a Space Hulk running the length of the convention center.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

well, that would suck... at a bare minimum, they could use regular terminators or at least AOBR ones where appropriate. obviously, you expect the tiles to be cardboard and not necessarily 3D.. but the minis? has GW done that at any of their premiere events in the past?

I think he was busting me up that the "big" game uses _lifesize_ cardboard stand-ups. I've seen videos of 40K played like that with huge dice. Let me just say "No thanks."
Well, I getting hyped for it all whatever it may be!

Hey,
Just wanted to give an update on this for anyone who's interested. The judges modified the format of the game slightly for the contest. They ran three sessions throughout the day of 2 hours each, with 22 people participating in each round. They constructed a large-scale board out of 9 SH boxes. There was a "reactor core" in the middle which was the primary objective for marines to get to. There were also secondary objectives throughout the board: Terminator skeletons on thrones, CAT's. 'Stealers started out the game with random blips placed throughout and would get a random number per turn. They provided the models from the box and some folks brought their own Terminators to play with. Space Marines received 6 command points each turn to make it possible to get to the center, since it was a long haul. No Brood Lord or Librarian. Terminator's turn was timed and 'Stealers' was not as per normal. At the end of each round they raffled off a new box of 3E Space Hulk.
It was a good time. Gamesday in general was fun this year. Check my post if you want to read more: My Gamesday 2010 Pics and Write-up
Have fun,
Jamie

nice pics. i'm glad their was a bit of cosplay going on there too. and they gave away 15+ boxes of the "sold out" space hulk? i guess they're holding a few back for the big events. after the epic fails that were gamesdays over the past few years from the reports (last one i went to was 7 years ago and not too shabby), it's good that they actually put in the effort. out of curiosity, what were the apoc stats of that giant ork tank?
